Orcs must die meets VR. Very good game, i think the Bow needs some work, LOS with spawn points, but great for the price, specially when it's on sale.

Axgend VR is a really nice game. I went into this game with minimal expectations, and was pleasantly surprised. It's charming art style reminds me of "For The King", while its gameplay is highly influenced by Orcs Must Die. Since I liked both of the games, I might be a little bit biased towards it. -------------- Gameplay -------------- The game is a rogue lite at its base with a premise that you level up and unlock bonuses for your characters as you level up. The current classes are Archer and Swordsman, with Mage on the way. They all have their unique bonuses with Archer focused on traps and Swordsman on weapons. Your task is to save the princess, who has been kidnapped by the orcs. It is a wave based game, and after every wave you will get to chose a reward from a randomised set. It can be a weapon, turret, trap, bonus, health, etc. Enemies will get harder and more numerous as you progress. There is quite a bit of variety with weapons and traps, which can be quite wacky! You can play with a light saber, or a rocket powered hammer that is twice your size. Traps include sumo wrestlers acting as decoy and pigs with dynamite sticks on their back. Basically.. its fun stuff. Best of all, the multiplayer mode is in the works. If you have any friends with a VR headset, it will be a blast when its finally implemented. ------------------- Technical Info ------------------- With my RTX 3080, Intel i9 9900k and Reverb G2, I can play it on SteamVR resolution of 5000x5000 pixels, which is about 6k resolution each eye. Even if you don't have the high end hardware, this game will run pretty well stutter free. While the game can be played seated, it would make for a very awkward experience when using the weapons, etc, so I would recommend a standing setup. To a new VR player like me, it caused minimal discomfort. I was able to play for about 3 hours in a session with a small break in between. So it should suit most people just fine. It has 3 different locomotion options including continuous, which allows you to walk just using the joystick keys. ------------- Thoughts ------------- I think the dev manages to make a charming game with limited resources. Its an indie game, and has the usual constraints. The execution however, is pretty impressive. I had a lot of fun in my 3 hours of gameplay so far, and I see myself going back to play more. What I do wish was that was a wiki somewhere. Unfortunately because its not a particularly popular game, you are left fending for yourself, trying to find out how things work. Most of the things are self explanatory, but it would be nice if the game told you, which traps stay forever, and which ones expire after a certain time, and which ones are single use only. I guess, its not the worst thing to find out for yourself, but there were times when I was wishing that some of these things were easier to find. Overall its a fantastic game, especially at this price. Its in early access, but its worth a buy even at its current state of development.
This game is really fun and if it had a more advanced combat system it would be 10/10
Disclaimer: I've received this game for free via Curator Connect. Axegend is Orcs Must Die in VR. It's fun to play for a while, but gets a bit to chaotic for my taste in third act. Definitely gonna try it again after the release. The game is way more focused on combat than on Tower Defense part and that is noticeable in weapon variety compared to traps. In the current stage of EA there is not that many different towers/traps, but there are tons of quirky weapons - from parasol and swordfish to minigun and lightsaber. And almost every weapon has it own unique move or two that are triggered by motion controllers gestures. Not all of them has the same quality though: archery is terrible(like in Skyrim VR without mods), while throwing weapons like Axes or Boomerang are top-notch. Melee is very simplistic, but it gets the job done. Enemy death animations are satisfying and gory(in a wholesome cartoony way, of course), they elevate overall combat feeling. Hitboxes for both enemies and the player are too big, but it's hard to notice in later stages where you will face hordes of baddies at the same time. Difficulty curve is quite steep: I could not beat the 3rd act on normal after several attempts. And bosses might feel bullet spongy, if you do not get enough dps from weapons or traps. Still overall challenge is fair and enjoyable. Visuals are mediocre, while sound is a bit glitchy. Starting horn sounds too loud sometimes and victory sound effects might cause crackling in speakers.
