A 3D shooter made in the spirit of the the 90s' FPSes. Atmospheric pixel graphics, fast-paced action, focus on pure gameplay, made using a software renderer written from scratch.

A respectible "Experiment" but a full fleged game with a price tag this is not The game still drops frames and lacks many basic features a game should have I think this was a missed opportunity to make a game with a real classic style Maybe release it as Early Access and build upon the software renderer and content Instead it seems to be a proof of concept with placeholder sound effects
Poor performance, poor level design, weapons lack impact, no key rebinding, no volume sliders, seems not to have an exclusive fullscreen option. I like the retro midi music and Heretic/Hexen-esque visual design but despite looking the part this plays far worse than any major shooter from the 90's. If time was put into improving the feel of combat and making more complex levels then I think this could have real potential but it's very rough right now. Even 90's FPS enthusiasts can safely give this a pass. To the developer: I respect the obvious effort that went into this but I think you should consider that people stopped writing pure software renderers for a reason. On an i7-6700k I wasn't able to keep a steady 60fps at 4k even with graphics quality turned down to low. It's a neat experiment but I don't really see this as commercial quality software. Also adding a starter melee weapon would be a very good idea, being totally defenseless when you run out of ammo is not fun.
Heretic was released almost 25 years ago, but it does everything better than this game. To be fair, I only played the first level, but that first level is just wandering around a simple courtyard killing the same 3 enemies until you've killed 74. Just kidding, more spawned. Kill 103. Oh, you ran out of ammo? Now your only option is to die and restart the stage. What fun. I like the old school visual style, but it's just not a fun game.
Love the style. It's very hard though, I wish there was some save/load mechanism, but on the other hand it's very intense right now.
This game LOOKS like a fun, old-school, Doom/Wolf3D-type shooter, but it suffers from numerous minor issues to the point where... it just makes me wanna go play the original Doom instead. I only played for about 10 minutes and came across ALL of the following issues: * Music volume WAY quieter than the sound effects with no way to change it * Framerate issues (I have a GTX 1070 card! How is that NOT enough?!) * Rather poor field of view (you can adjust it but not enough to feel right) * Cannot customize controls * No ammoless weapon; if you run out of ammo you're defenceless! * No actual ammo counter, just gems which change form as ammo is used up * No automap * Wide open maps without the design/charm of old Doom/Wolf3D maps * Crosshair is a lie; your shots always hit below the crosshair, not centred * Cannot adjust options mid-game; have to quit to change options * Cannot loop menu cursor past the top or bottom of the menu Yeah, they're all minor issues... but there's SO many of them... and again, it only took 10 minutes to encounter ALL of these... x_x;
Autumn Night 3D shooter is a great old-school game. The level design is okay. The weapons are varied, every single one feels different. The secrets are well-hidden and rewarding (you get a new weapon). The plot is almost non-existent, but I would argue that shooter like this doesn't really need one. The graphics is great like always in Sergey Bobrov's games. Overall, I think that, if you like 3d shooters, you should definitely try this one out.
Takes inspiration from games like Hexen, with one level and some doubtful decisions. Lack of ammo - you're doomed. Definitely bad. Just skip it.
Graphics-Solid and consitent. Not some half ass pixel art used soley because it was easy to do Music- Awesome, though all sounds lack "punch"; they all feel weak. Gameplay-Solid shooter in a set map with tons of baddies UI-The Ui is unintutitive and bland. Could use some touch ups. Polish- Its okay, could use some work. For example, a "you died" screen rather than just sinking to the floor. Notes: Could really use a save function. If maps were slightly varied each time it would make me want to try it again and again, but as it stands, doing the same thing over and over can get boring.
If you like Doom/Doom 2, this game is absolutely worth $5 to you. No jumping, no plot, lots of bad guys. The graphics and music do a good job setting the tone. The enemies are challenging and numerous. The level design is fairly basic but secrets help add variety. Very barebones menu and options - you can't rebind controls, so if you don't like WASD you're out of luck. Give it a try!
