Travel Through Unfamiliar WorldsExplore a vast, dangerous, yet beautiful world. Broken up through multiple chapters, join the protagonist and Karon, his talking bird companion, as they confront time and fate.
Slashing, Smashing, thrusting countless enemies while building up stamina for powerful Possession Skills, which are enough to melt away anything that blocks your way, including huge bosses that could take half, or even more of the screen. Fight aggressively while thinking strategically, always pick up the most trust worthy equipment, and select the best suited skills to deal with ever changing circumstances.
Battle ferocious bosses throughout the story, each with their own set of attacks and challenges. Upgrading abilities and acquiring new skills are vital to finishing each battle and progressing through the protagonist’s story.
A warrior mastered ranged combat with bows and throwing knives? A mage smashing enemies with staffs and cast magic at the same time? Play it in your way. Gathering experience to level up, collecting force to grow up, forging and mastering equipment to open up more tactical options.
14 years in development and more than 1 year for revision, award-winning indie developer KEIZO gave his all into this work. The plot keeps twisting as characters growing in an ever expanding world; Classic themes like time travel and tons of spoilers are all custom-made with the developer's own style. In ASTLIBRA, Story elements are often made into game mechanics, for example, your soul-mate Karon is not just a sidekick to talk with.
With 6 difficulty options, all kinds of players can enjoy the combat system at their own pace, but no one can finish all those contents casually - even after you "beat" the game, the Postscript after Final Chapter will provide extra story, new adventure and fresh system, tapping the potential of skills, equipment, as well as your imagination.

Fantastic game, one of the best of my life, so good. Now im going to play the DLC.

2.DLC
Finally got the 100% on Hell Difficulty. Amazing game. I found this game by just scrolling on steam and it somehow spoke to me. I have never played a left to right 2D JRPG before but it works really well. Whether this game is for you, depends entirely on what types of games you like. Here are some of the characteristics of the game: (take a shot every time I use the word "system") It's very long if you go for 100% on Hell / Impossible Difficulty and there are times when you kinda have to grind. This is a typical characteristic of JRPG's... though technically you can beat the game without grinding if you are really good. The story is very complex and it has a lot of plot twists. This really surprised me. I think it's one of the better JRPG stories out there. I really like the characters and humor of the game as well. It's not for everyone though. But if you like the typical humor of Japanese media, you will also like it. My favorite video game genre is Metroidvania (who would've guessed, ik) and many things in this game reminded me of them. The best feeling in any video game for me personally is finding a secret and being heavily rewarded for it. This game has multiple of those moments. What I miss personally, are pure platforming sections. With what the Karon skills offer, there is a lot of potential there. Though in order for that to be enjoyable, some of the jankiness should be removed. Yeah, this game is janky. And I kinda like that?... because I hate when games are too polished. Here are some examples of "bad" and "good" jankiness: Without spoiling abilities, the game doesn't treat you the same if you fall of the edge vs if you jump. some abilities don't work if you simply fall off. When it comes to forced movement, like wind for example, abilities that involve movement just don't work. e.g if you use an ability that moves you forward and wind is "behind you"... you slow down. There are many specific scenarios where the game doesn't behave as it should, I feel like. One exploit involves a Karon skill I don't wanna spoil. Let's get to the good part of the jank though. You can kinda break the game in some aspects. There are ways to reach insane walk speeds in the endgame for example. My walk speed was faster than any forward moving ability. One positive experience (for me) was using a lot of karon skills that buff possession skills and then using the Possession skill Sylphid, which buffs your attack speed. The attack speed is so fast that you can't even see the trail of the weapon and the only way to fully utilize it is to mash the attack button really fast. Like.. really fast. I had to use a vibration technique with my thumb on the controller in order to fully utilize it. I did that for many hours yesterday and today my arm hurts lmao. But I love it. This game has a very unique combat system. First of all, every system that contributes to "getting stronger" in this game is amazing. I love the growth system. It's almost like a Metroidvania map that you traverse on a grid, looking for new possession skills. I love the Karon skills. It's like a typical badge system but in order to learn the skills you have to Master equipment. The libra system is unique and interesting. And to spice things up and make every equipment viable in the endgame, there is the board system. There are not only a lot of different playstyles; what really makes this game stand out is how you can abuse the fact that you can pause at any time in a fight. You can use a lot of strategy to beat bosses, swapping karon skills at the right time for example, using a reset potion at certain times etc. This combines strategy with execution in the best way. It's what the Final Fantasy 7 remakes try to do but fail. The best part is that you can define presets so you don't have to switch multiple skills around. I used a normal layout, a high dps glasscannon layout, a high dps farming layout, a tool build + magic nuke layout and a farming layout, utilizing all 5 slots. Switching to the right layouts at the right time during boss fights felt amazing. This kinda reminds me of labbing in fighting games. Just by learning more about the game, you can get better. It's not just an execution check. I could write a thesis about this game.. I really enjoyed it. Overall this game is incredible. I rarely have this much to say about a game.. Considering most of it was done by one person is really inspiring for me, as someone who's also working on their dream project. Thank you, KEIZO.
