The free to play version is Awesome! It auto saves and you can play quick sessions. The game-play is easy, but my imagination kicks in and this game takes me back to early console games + also reminds me of an addictive coin Arcade game from the 80's. I have not yet finished the free to play version and I already have my eye on the dlc. I'm having a blast. I will definitely purchase all dlc to support the game maker. Thanks for a fun game!

Asteroids ++, developed and published by Infiland, takes one of gaming’s oldest arcade concepts and rebuilds it into something much larger than a simple retro recreation. Inspired by classic space shooters but expanded with progression systems, customization mechanics, procedural generation, and long-term replayability, the game transforms familiar asteroid-blasting gameplay into a modern arcade experience built around experimentation and continuous growth. Instead of relying purely on nostalgia, it uses classic foundations as a starting point before layering modern systems that encourage players to keep improving, adapting, and discovering new ways to play. The premise establishes a science fiction backdrop designed to support progression without overwhelming players with heavy storytelling. Humanity has expanded beyond Earth and established itself further across space, only for catastrophe to disrupt stability throughout the solar system. Massive asteroid threats begin appearing after a large-scale disaster sends dangerous debris into populated regions. Players step into the role of a pilot tasked with helping restore order by traveling between locations and eliminating threats before larger consequences unfold. While narrative remains secondary to gameplay, it provides enough structure to give progression purpose. Missions feel connected to a larger objective rather than existing as disconnected score challenges. Planetary exploration and combat encounters become part of an ongoing effort to restore stability across dangerous sectors of space, helping strengthen immersion without slowing momentum. Combat remains the heart of the experience. Movement feels immediate and responsive, preserving the arcade foundation that inspired the project while allowing complexity to emerge naturally through progression. Asteroids split apart into smaller hazards, enemy encounters increase pressure, and later situations require stronger awareness than simply firing continuously. The core mechanics remain approachable while creating opportunities for mastery over time. One of the strongest features comes through ship customization systems. Rather than forcing players into predefined playstyles, Asteroids ++ encourages experimentation by offering extensive build variety. Weapons, abilities, movement options, and defensive systems can dramatically change how combat unfolds. Some players may create highly aggressive builds focused on overwhelming damage output, while others may prioritize survivability or mobility. That flexibility helps prevent progression from becoming repetitive. The ability to adjust equipment and create different strategies gives players reasons to revisit familiar challenges with entirely different approaches. Experimentation becomes rewarding because combat behavior changes noticeably depending on chosen upgrades and equipment combinations. The progression structure also supports long-term engagement effectively. Unlockable content steadily expands possibilities over time, creating a satisfying sense of advancement beyond simple score chasing. New systems and additional tools reinforce improvement while encouraging continued play sessions. The game clearly understands that modern arcade experiences often benefit from stronger progression hooks than older classics originally offered. Procedural generation strengthens replayability further. Environments and encounter structures avoid becoming overly predictable because repeated runs continue introducing variation. Players adapt to changing situations rather than memorizing fixed patterns completely. This procedural approach helps maintain freshness while supporting the game's roguelike elements. Enemy variety contributes positively to pacing as well. Different threats gradually introduce greater challenge while encouraging players to refine strategies continuously. Combat remains engaging because encounters evolve alongside player progression rather than remaining mechanically static throughout longer sessions. Visually, Asteroids ++ embraces simplicity in a way that supports gameplay clarity effectively. Space environments remain readable during intense combat situations, allowing players to focus on threats and movement without unnecessary visual clutter. Effects emphasize gameplay visibility while still providing enough impact to make combat feel energetic and satisfying. The independent nature of the project becomes visible throughout presentation, but much of the game's appeal comes from systems design rather than production scale. Infiland prioritizes mechanical depth and replayability over cinematic storytelling or visual spectacle. That design philosophy works well because the gameplay loop remains strong enough to support long-term investment. The free-to-play structure also lowers entry barriers significantly. Players can experience extensive progression systems and build experimentation without major commitment, helping broaden accessibility while reinforcing replay value. Its arcade roots naturally shape audience expectations. Players looking for heavily narrative-driven experiences may find stronger emphasis placed on gameplay systems and progression loops instead. Likewise, players who enjoy experimenting with builds and gradually mastering mechanics will likely connect more strongly with what Asteroids ++ offers. What allows the game to stand out is how effectively it balances retro inspiration with modern design ideas. Rather than simply recreating a familiar formula with updated visuals, Asteroids ++ expands its foundation into something that feels both nostalgic and contemporary. Asteroids ++ succeeds because it respects arcade history without becoming trapped by it. Infiland builds a space shooter focused on customization, progression, and replayability while preserving the fast-paced action that made classic arcade experiences memorable in the first place. For players who enjoy arcade shooters, science fiction combat, and progression systems built around experimentation and long-term improvement, Asteroids ++ delivers an entertaining modern interpretation of a timeless genre. Rating: 8/10
Asteroids ++ is a single player game based on the classic arcade game but with a variety of skills and weapons purchasable between battles. Each battle occurs in a zone which consists of multiple waves. Each planet consists of multiple zones and when all zones for a planet are won, the planet is liberated. You can configure a variety of load outs, albeit you'll discover quite quickly that certain weapons and perks are much better than others. Difficulty scales appropriately. The sound and music is of acceptable quality. Infiland currently only has this game and The Colorful Creature available on Steam. While I can't attest to the quality of the latter, this game is a fun and fresh take on the arcade classic. If you're into 2D classic arcade games, roguelikes, and 2D space combat games, this title likely offers something for you. 87% of the 89 reviews for this game are positive. The negative reviews are mostly from when the game was launched when it still had advertisements and many bugs. Out of the 8 negative reviews in English, 3 complain about bugs and/or crashes, 2 complain about ads, and the other 3 have a combined playtime of 0.4 hours with either reviews that make no sense or complain about the game being boring or low effort. For an Asteroids-based game, it's pretty good. It's a solid recommend for those seeking such a title. Especially since it is free. SCORE: 4/5 - Recommend
