Fun but challenging gameplay, nothing like i've ver seen. Filme autumnn festa badge.
I have tried quite a few times and I always get the exact same score and an F rank on Level 1, no matter how fast I complete it or how many enemies I beat. I am unsure whether this is a bug or whether I just suck, but either way I can't play level 2.
Armless Samurai is a compact first-person action and parkour game built around a premise that sounds like a joke but proves surprisingly effective as a foundation for its mechanics. The protagonist is a samurai without arms, forcing him to rely entirely on his legs while fighting his way through a dangerous fortress. Developed and published by Playmakers Development Team, the game embraces this unusual limitation rather than treating it merely as a visual gag. Kicking, jumping, sliding, wall-running, dashing, and deflecting attacks are combined into a fast movement system where staying mobile is just as important as defeating enemies. The strongest element is the relationship between traversal and combat. Instead of separating platforming sections from enemy encounters, the game encourages players to treat them as parts of the same continuous sequence. A wall run can lead directly into an attack, while a dash may simultaneously close the distance to an opponent and keep a run moving at high speed. Kicks naturally become the protagonist's primary offensive technique, but their usefulness extends beyond simply dealing damage. Positioning and momentum influence how smoothly an encounter unfolds, rewarding players who learn to think several movements ahead. Defensive play follows the same philosophy. The samurai can use his legs to parry incoming projectiles, producing an amusing image while adding another layer of timing to the action. Successful play therefore involves more than rushing forward and repeatedly attacking. Players need to recognize threats, choose the correct movement, and react quickly without destroying the rhythm of a run. Once these actions become familiar, completing a difficult sequence without hesitation can be extremely satisfying. The adventure consists of six levels that take the samurai deeper through a fortress populated by mechanical enemies and environmental hazards. The relatively small number of stages makes this a focused experience rather than a lengthy campaign. However, simply reaching the end is not the complete objective. Levels are constructed around repeated attempts and mechanical improvement, making them suitable for players who enjoy learning routes and gradually turning initially messy runs into efficient performances. Scoring gives that repetition considerably more purpose. Attacks can be combined into sequences, and players are encouraged to pursue higher grades, including the demanding SSS ranking. Speed also matters, making route optimization an important part of mastering each stage. A player may finish a level successfully while still having substantial room for improvement. Cleaner movement, fewer mistakes, faster enemy eliminations, and better use of the environment can transform subsequent attempts. Leaderboards further emphasize this competitive, speedrunning-oriented structure. Players interested in maximizing performance can compare their results and repeatedly attempt stages to improve their times. This is where the game potentially offers much more longevity than its level count suggests. Someone satisfied with completing each stage once may experience a fairly short adventure, whereas a dedicated score chaser can spend considerably longer experimenting with movement techniques and optimizing individual sections. The presentation supports the intentionally eccentric tone. Samurai imagery is combined with mechanical opponents and steampunk-inspired elements rather than pursuing historical realism. This exaggerated direction suits the protagonist and prevents the strange central concept from feeling out of place. The environments function primarily as playgrounds for movement, filled with spaces where wall-running, sliding, jumping, and rapid attacks can be chained together. The first-person viewpoint adds immediacy to these actions and makes high-speed traversal feel especially energetic. The main drawback is that the experience depends heavily on enjoying mechanical repetition. Players expecting extensive exploration, character progression, a substantial narrative, or a long campaign may find the scope limited. The six-stage structure places considerable emphasis on replaying familiar content for better scores and completion times. Precision movement can also require practice, and failed sequences may become frustrating for players who prefer forgiving platforming. For the intended audience, however, improving through repeated attempts is precisely the attraction. Steam Deck compatibility requires some qualification. Armless Samurai does not have an official Valve Steam Deck compatibility rating listed, so it should not be described as formally Verified or Playable. Its Windows-focused specifications and lack of an official Deck classification mean handheld users should regard compatibility as unconfirmed. The presence of full controller support is encouraging for the control scheme, but that alone does not guarantee reliable operation through SteamOS and Proton. Players specifically purchasing it for Steam Deck should therefore approach it as an unsupported or unverified title rather than assuming complete compatibility. Overall, Armless Samurai takes a deliberately absurd character concept and successfully turns it into an actual mechanical identity. Its best qualities come from the way kicking, parkour, defensive timing, scoring, and speedrunning all reinforce one another. The limited amount of content prevents it from becoming a substantial action adventure, but its emphasis on mastery gives those six levels meaningful replay value. It is particularly appealing to players who enjoy first-person movement challenges and improving a run until every jump, dash, parry, and kick feels deliberate. As a focused indie action-platformer with a memorable gimmick that meaningfully affects gameplay, it offers more substance than its humorous premise initially suggests. Rating: 8/10
