I am still going to bully people. This has taught nothing. Why would someone click on a link from a random person, and why would people not take critiques from others when that is how you grow? Ugh.

Anti Bully Adventure is a very small game, but I actually like the idea behind it. I play as someone who has been dealing with online bullying, then I click on what looks like a positive comment and end up infecting my computer with a virus. From there I have to deal with the virus and try to track down the person behind the bullying. It is a pretty unusual setup for a 2D platformer and I think that gives the game more personality than it would have had with a normal fantasy story. The platforming is fairly basic, but there are several levels to work through and each one has its own route. I can run and jump through the areas while dealing with enemies and trying to make my way towards the next part of the story. There are also boss fights, and these give the game some bigger moments instead of keeping everything at the same pace. I would not call the platforming especially difficult or deep, but it is easy enough to understand and I rarely felt lost about what I was supposed to be doing. The phone mechanic is probably the part that stood out to me most. I can use the phone to dial a friend and get help tracking down the bully, which ties the story back into the original problem instead of making the platforming feel completely separate. I like little details like this because the game is clearly trying to deal with something that actually happens online rather than just using bullying as a random excuse for a villain. The presentation is quite simple. It uses colourful 2D pixel graphics and a fairly minimalist style, which is perfectly fine for a game of this size. I did not expect anything technically impressive here, and I think the simple visuals actually help keep the focus on the story and gameplay. The English voice acting and subtitles are also supported, which makes the story easy enough for me to follow without needing to rely entirely on reading text. The biggest issue for me is the short length and lack of depth. This started as a school project made by the developer and a friend, and the original creator describes it as a very short game. That is something I can feel while playing because the mechanics never really get the chance to develop into anything complicated. I wanted more levels, more interesting platforming challenges and perhaps more variety in the boss fights. The game has a good basic idea, but it finishes before it can do much with it. Still, I think Anti Bully Adventure deserves some credit for what it is trying to do. It takes a serious subject and turns it into a small action adventure without making the entire thing miserable to play. The story is simple, the platforming is straightforward and the presentation is rough around the edges, but there is a genuine idea behind it. I would have liked a longer and more polished experience, but as a short free game with an unusual theme, I think it is worth giving a chance. It feels more like a small project with something to say than a game trying to pretend it is much bigger than it really is. Rating: 6.6/10
