Animal Shelter 2: Prologue is a free animal management simulator where I take care of animals that need a safe place before finding them new homes. I have to provide food and water, keep the shelter clean, play with the animals and make sure they are healthy and happy. It is a very wholesome concept, and I like that the game focuses more on caring for animals than simply managing numbers. The animals are easily the best part for me. I can pet them, play with them and even dress them up, while their individual traits and current condition affect how suitable they are for adoption. Getting to know each animal before finding the right owner makes the adoption process feel more personal than simply clicking a button to send a pet away. Managing the shelter gives the game a little more depth. I have to keep the facilities clean, improve the shelter and eventually hire employees to take over some responsibilities. I like having these management elements because they give me something to work towards while still keeping the animals as the main focus. The adoption system is another feature I enjoyed. Potential owners can actually visit the shelter and look at the animals before deciding, and different factors can affect whether an adoption succeeds. That makes finding a suitable home feel like part of the gameplay rather than just the final step of a simple quest. The co-op mode is also a nice addition. I can invite friends to help run the shelter, take care of animals and develop the facilities together. It is not something I necessarily need in an animal simulator, but I think it works well because looking after a shelter can be turned into a surprisingly relaxing activity when I have someone else helping me. The biggest weakness is that this is still only a prologue, so the amount of content is limited compared with the full game. The developers describe it as only part of the experience that is available in the complete version, which means I can get a good idea of the gameplay without getting the full progression or all of the features. I also think the management side could become repetitive if I spend a long time doing the same basic tasks. Cleaning, feeding, playing with animals and arranging adoptions are enjoyable for a while, but I would want more facilities, animals and management decisions to keep the experience interesting over a much longer period. The prologue is also more about giving me a taste of the concept than providing a huge amount of content. Overall, Animal Shelter 2: Prologue is a charming and relaxing simulator that succeeds mainly because the animals are genuinely fun to interact with. I like taking care of them, improving the shelter and trying to find each one a suitable home, while the co-op mode gives the experience an extra social element. The limited prologue content and relatively simple management systems hold it back, but since it is free, I think it is an easy recommendation if I want something wholesome and relaxing. I loved this game! I would enjoy it more if the animals had genders and if there where puppies and kittens, but over all great game! One thing that I found annoying is if dismiss all the adopters for an animal, then no knew ones will appear.
