As a big fan of the AVGN series, this remastered edition of the first 2 games, plus the bonus Tower of Torment area, is a blast from start to finish. The story is simple and gets you into the action as quickly as possible. The gameplay is a classic side scroller designed to frustrate you and test your patience, but dying to the nonsense is all a part of the experience. Checkpoints are scattered through levels to help you reach the goal and if you play on easy mode, you get unlimited lives for a "stress-free" experience. The developers of this game took so much inspiration from the series for it's level and enemy design, if you're a fan of the series, you'll appreciate all of the little nods and easter eggs. Some particularly annoying enemies and level designs are plucked straight from games featured on the show, as parodies of course, so you get to experience a collection of the Nerd's greatest crash-outs first hand. One of my favorites was an obstacle the Nerd encountered in a TMNT game for the NES, a small one bock gap that you think you have to jump over, but if you do, you'll fall right into it and lose your progress. He falls into it several times thinking you have to jump the gap in just the right way, only to find out you can just walk right over it. This iconic piece of "poor level design" has a notable appearance in a fittingly TMNT-themed level with dialogue as well when you yourself discover you can just walk right across it. It's filled with references like that, but I think even if you're not familiar with the series, AVGN Deluxe is a genuinely fun and challenging platformer with an insane amount of charm. The final area you unlock after beating the 2 first games is Tower of Torment, a selection of brand new levels themed around climbing a foreboding castle to the top to face off against one of the Nerd's most iconic foes, who isn't named for legal reasons, but we know who it is and it's a damn hard boss fight, but a fitting end to a great remaster. Somehow, they were able to make a game filled with concepts borrowed from bad games, mash them together, and create what is genuinely an incredible and funny experience. You'll be shouting all kinds of profanities at your screen and then laughing right afterward. That's a difficult thing to do, but the developers pulled it off masterfully. I highly recommend to any fan of not just the series, but to those of platformers and retro video games as well. 9/10

I´ve been a fan of the AVGN for many years, so I've wanted to beat this remastered collection (plus extra chapter) for the longest time. I finally got it during the 2026 Summer Sale, and I'm so glad I did! What a fun experience this has been: Tight controls, cool mechanics and upgrades, and level design that can surely be challenging at times, but the generous amount of checkpoints makes it so fun! I wish other games were as generous with the checkpoints as this one. I'm also very glad about the Auto-Fire option, and the Normal difficulty mode, which wasn't in the original games. And of course, since it's an AVGN game, expect a lot of scat, profanity and F-Bombs (in more ways than you think), and many crazy characters and references from the AVGN universe. Don't get this game if you get easily offended. I feel about this game the same way James feels about Contra: "This game kicks so much ass, there is no more ass left to kick." So, if you like jump-n-shoot platformers, definitely get this collection, even at full price! And since I completed this collection 100%, and was left wanting more, I will also be checking out the AVGN 8-Bit game, probably on the next Summer Sale: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3445490

Whoever made the last boses and tower of torment is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ psycho which gets satisfaction from the pain that inflicts. Very challenging game i just finish everything has to offer in 7 hours. With difficulties that had back in the day games like nes and snes, almost lion king difficulty if anyone had play it. Play it ONLY at easy mode if you want to keep your sanity, you can thank me later 80s and 90s born will understand what i am saying.

Coming from someone who’s 100%’d this game, it’s so worth it. I bought the game while it was on sale, and it is a true AVGN game experience. The only gripes I have are the fact they changed some stuff in the games, I assume to theme it more around the online shoe and have a more cohesive story across the games. The game holds strong similarities to Mega Man, but it’s much more accessible in terms of challenge personally (Though this game made me wanna play more Mega Man for my difficult platformer fix). I found myself playing over and over and over again trying to get a perfect run on a level, or to find any secret items hidden. This game is a solid 10/10 in my book, I recommend you buy it cheap, or buy it now if you’re a fan who simply NEEDS an AVGN game, really good value for it’s price.

♥♥♥♥ THIS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ OF ♥♥♥♥!!!!! It's a good, basic 2D Platformer with the Angry Video Game Nerd with the difficulty to boot. It very much keeps the same humor that the Nerd has crafted over his many years on the internet. Though some of the humorous criticisms that the Nerd says in game can be annoying since this is a Platformer that still does those same criticisms in Gameplay. But ultimately it is worth it at the end of the day.

♥♥♥♥ this game, don't have the patience for this, at all. Can't even get past the moving platform part on "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" ON NORMAL DIFFICULTY, i've tried a million times over the years, but nope, always get stuck in that and give up. Still 10/10 tho, peak masochism, highly recommend!

this was a great purchase as a HUGE AVGN fan !! i've only played for 5 hours as of writing this , but i still REALLY recoommend the game !!! if you're not good at platformers then this will be challenging , at least it is for me ( but maybe it's a skill issue ) , but it gets easier the more you play . the dialogue is hilarious and the story is actually pretty good ! i love this game and can't wait to 100% it !! defo DO buy !!!! i love u , AVGN : )

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures is one of those games that’s way more fun if you’re already into the Nerd. If you grew up watching James Rolfe screaming at terrible games, catching all the references here is great. Dude’s honestly a huge inspiration for my reviews too, so seeing all the callbacks and hearing that remixed AVGN theme go insanely hard automatically gives the game points. Now… outside of that? it’s basically a really difficult retro platformer. Not bad, but also not some masterpiece. You die constantly, levels can be annoying as hell, and sometimes it feels more frustrating than fun. Still, the personality carries it hard if you’re a fan. And yeah, Angry Video Game Nerd II: ASSimilation is a bit better overall. 7.5/10, powered almost entirely by Nerd energy.
