Too repetitive for me. Kinda boring and tedious. The humor is the highlight of this game, but I wouldn't really call it an RPG. The worst thing is the JRPG-like repetitive turn based combat, where you constantly fight waves of boring enemies. If you could skip the animations for the abilities maybe it would be a bit less annoying, but in this state it is just too time consuming. The aesthetic is nice, the worldbuilding is good. The quests are mostly fetch this, do that, talk to that person, and they are kinda repetitive. I like that it doesn't guide your hand but it doesn't help the structure at all. If you like JRPG combat and all the tediousness that comes with it, then this is the game for you. You will definitely like the humor though! But I can't recommend it to most people. The problem is not even that the game is old, since I play older titles all of the time, the problem is that too much time in the game is spent on boring stuff. Perhaps I will give it another shot when I have more patience in me.
Anachronox is a title that you probably already have in your library because of how often it goes on sale for dirt cheap. You've probably never played it and have no intention of playing it and you're honestly not missing out on anything if you never do. But if you're a fan of RPG's, more specifically JRPG's, you might wanna give this one a go if it looks like your jam. For everyone else though, I'd be hard pressed to say you should invest the 30+ hours into finishing it. Yes it does have its charm, yes it does have a fun cast of memorable characters, and yes it's incredibly easy to play from an RPG standpoint, but the juice isn't worth the squeeze. https://youtu.be/mbUgqTailic
Possibly the funniest and best game to come out of "development hell" of all time, the combat is a bit clunky but the true sin of the game is it wasn't finished - it clearly needed either a full development cycle to wrap up the story or a full sequel (the game came out prior to DLC being really "a thing").
oldschool, not polished best, but the story is quite a tale
do yourself a favor and play this game on easy and get ready to spend hours on game that doesn't flow nicely and use a walkthrough. would not recommend.
when graphics were peak
crashes a lot on steamdeck.
Zapomenutá variace na JRPG ve stylu Final Fantasy, která byla tak dobrá, že finančně selhala a vedla k zániku legendárního studia Ion Storm. Zároveň vtipná, šílená, filmová a nápady napráskaná kombinace širokého spektra videoherních žánrů plná absurdních postav (robot se sklony s sebevraždě, zkrachovalý alkoholický superhrdina, technologicky zmenšená planeta s excentrickou povahou...) a ještě absurdnějších situací (mluvící kurzor myši). A to cokoliv je neskutečně..... ehm.... no..... bizardní. ''You know the difference between you and the you five minutes ago? The you five minutes ago had five minutes to live.''
Pretends it's an RPG but it's closer to a lucasarts point and click adventure. You are going to need a walkthrough and a lot of free time. I suggest you lay on easy because there's no extra fun to be had from making fights take any longer than they already do. This game had a fast-forward button patched into it for a reason. (Config file says it's \ but it maps to # on my machine). I also suggest you make multiple save games to make sure you don't lose much progress if you softlock yourself. Check it out by all means, because it's a charming and fun setting, but absolutely don't pay full price for this. Get it only if it's heavily discounted. It bombed for reason. I paid £0.69 for it and that's about as much as I'd want to pay for it.
One of the greatest games ever made. It's a cinematic game in a time most games were still figuring out mouse look. JRPG style comedy space adventure. Amazing characters, great story, and some very fun and impressive in-game cutscenes. Must play
