I had a blast playing An Unfinished Game. It is silly, clever, aggravating at times, and manages to hit most cliches related to game development. It made me laugh out loud, over and over. You arrive at the company and immediately step into the role of a play tester. When choosing your character, the scene crashes and it just keeps getting better from there! An Unfinished Game is a 3D adventure that allows you to freely move through a series of 15 unique test environments. Although there are mechanics that repeat throughout the game, each test area has a different theme. There is some platforming but the fact that I was able to succeed means that precision is not required. The goal of each test scenario is to find (intentional) bugs and the exit point. The game tracks the time you spend on each level and how many bugs are found. These stats are not important unless you are an achievement hunter. There are 13 Steam Achievements. I have completed all levels and found all bugs, but I am still circling back to improve my time and pick up missing achievements. Once you have completed a test, it is easy to circle back and repeat it as many times as you wish. Since you only have to find bugs once, you can focus on timing during subsequent runs. A scoreboard in the company lobby tracks your most recent time on each level. I may not be able to get 100% on this game, but in a rare departure from my norm, I am okay with this. After all, what unfinished game would be complete without a silly speed run achievement? Those who play a lot of games will see regular references to other games and will chuckle at quite a few of the comments made by the NPC developers and testers that you encounter. There are no voice-overs, and the soundtrack is filled with music, sound effects, and the quaking of the ubiquitous rubber duck. The game saves to a single save slot, on exit. Progress for completed test levels is saved but you are returned to the company lobby each time you enter the game. From there, you access elevators that take you to specific testing levels. As you complete levels, additional areas are open for you to visit. Once all tests are complete, you have the option of pushing the big red button to release the game. Whoohoo! I highly recommend An Unfinished Game to anyone who loves games and those who develop them! A fun, short and silly game. Completed it and had a lot of fun, especially with the silly jokes and environment. The rewards for collecting the bugs are fun and original, I'll definitely come back to this game to try them all out. Definitely worth the price!
A game clearly in an unfinished state. Broken assets, unfinished tutorial, broken player models bouncing around. Every single level has bugs and it's up to the player to remove them. But boy is that fun! This game takes you through the roller coaster that is game development in just a few levels. The humor made me genuinely laugh and I never knew what to expected next. The game is very meta and has fun references all around., It is definitely worth playing.
Hilarious game that's very charming. Quick little piece that's fun to 100% and even has speedrunning potential. I'd hate to spoil anything but there's lots of easter eggs in there. Good job, Vinzzi.
They even added the world famous stanley parable adventureline!
Genuinely the best game I have played this year so far I cant wait for more from the developer
I played until just before the end, then stopped playing. 10/10, excellent unfinished gaming experience
A game that makes you live the process of game development with funny and silly scenarios with many references and jokes if you look for them. The levels are not only great and unique but time and effort were put into the small details to make you feel immersed in the game testing facility. Occasionally takes go on AAA practices and the bad games we have seen these days, making you love these small indie games more. For a game made from scratch by a single dev, it sits way above expectation and deserves this thumbs up. If you want a good and fun time for a reasonable price, give this game a go, you won't regret it!
I feel like this is one of the most fun and unique games I've played in a long time. Each level has a theme related to the challenges you have to navigate in order to find the exit, and the levels are compact but well designed. It's really obvious that a lot of thought and care went into this, especially if you pay attention to the references nestled throughout. Funnily enough I think the graphics, while appropriate, might be why it's not getting more attention. I am sure that if this were done in the style of Job Simulator or looked closer to The Stanley Parable it would get a lot more love. If you were tempted to skip this game for aesthetic reasons, please consider giving it a shot.
