An Engineer and the Great Machine

An Engineer and the Great Machine is a puzzle game where you route, combine and split liquids in various way to convert the provided inputs into the desired outputs. Overall I found it is a solid title. A few particular points: - I completed the game in a little over 12 hours. There is the ability to generate random puzzles at the end. - The game has been designed for controller. It is possible to play through with keyboard and mouse (that is how I did) but if doing so I would suggest playing with the binds and options, particular the Camera Behaviour option. - There are a few stats measuring the quality of your solutions, but they don't matter much.

Very stylish game with great art and music. The game recommends using a controller but I found it very comfortable using just my laptop keyboard and mouse - I just mapped the E/Q and scroll wheel to the arrow keys for personal preference and it worked great. Laying down tiles feels very intuitive. The graphics are excellent and the way your solution is boxed up after completing a puzzle is SO satisfying - one of my favourite parts for sure. The puzzles are tough but the learning curve is steady and everything is possible with enough trial and error. The world-building is very interesting. I'm excited to see where it goes, there's lots of little hints about what we're building and why but it keeps you very much in the dark, just drip-feeding lore. It's got good pacing. Anyone who likes puzzles should play this game.

Awesome puzzle game for the aspiring engineer! Wonderfully thematic aesthetic and clever puzzle design that makes completion feel super satisfying. Lovely animations! There are MANY puzzles (plus a way to generate more!), presented with a unique narrative perspective. The learning curve feels steep but fair, such that overcoming new challenges feels like its own reward. The tile-layout and isometric perspective make it easy to keep track of even the most offensive spaghetti, and there will be spaghetti, while you tweak small sections of your mess to trial-and-error your way through. I also appreciate the inclusion of a 'clear puzzle' option in the pause menu, lol. If you like puzzles, pipes, engineers, you want to be an engineer, letters, diagrams, great machines, or any or all of the above, please do yourself a favour and give this game a go.

Quaint puzzle game that is deceptively more complex than it looks. I don't know what I'm building and I know whoever I'm making it for doesn't care about me at all but damn is it satisfying to get the goop going right

An Engineer and the Great Machine is a fun and thoughtful puzzle game that's easy to pickup and learn, but offers real challenge in some of its level design, especially at the end of each chapter. The introduction of new mechanics compounds nicely, staying true to its core while expanding for different options. The story didn't initially have much of a draw, though the HR corporate language was quite a funny parody that is scarily accurate in many ways. It seemed all a bit meaningless at points and could be skipped. However, there is a definite turning point where it brought my attention back, with interesting implications for the work you're doing. Overall, an in depth, well built puzzle game, that was definitely worth the price of purchase. If you're looking for some brainteasers, would highly recommend.
