aMAZE Lunar, developed and published by Blender Games, is a minimalist maze puzzle game that continues the developer’s established formula, this time framed within a calm, lunar-inspired aesthetic. It is designed to be immediately approachable, offering a stripped-back experience where the only real challenge lies in navigating increasingly intricate labyrinths. Rather than layering mechanics or building a narrative, the game focuses entirely on spatial reasoning, asking players to engage with its core idea in a pure, almost meditative form. The gameplay loop is extremely straightforward. Players control a small object that must travel through maze-like structures, collect required items, and reach an exit point to complete each level. There are no additional abilities, no obstacles beyond the layout itself, and no time pressure forcing quick decisions. This simplicity ensures that the game is easy to understand from the very beginning, making it accessible to a wide audience. However, it also means that the entire experience depends on how engaging the maze designs are, as there are no secondary systems to provide variation or depth. As players progress through the game’s set of levels, the complexity of the mazes gradually increases. Early stages are simple and serve as a gentle introduction, while later levels become more intricate, requiring careful planning and a stronger sense of spatial awareness. The challenge emerges not from new mechanics, but from the growing density and structure of the layouts. Dead ends become more frequent, routes more convoluted, and efficient navigation more demanding. This creates a steady difficulty curve that can be satisfying for players who enjoy methodical problem-solving, though it may feel repetitive for those seeking more dynamic challenges. Visually, aMAZE Lunar distinguishes itself through its soft, atmospheric presentation. The game incorporates a lunar and East Asian-inspired aesthetic, with muted colors and simple background art that evoke a sense of calm. The visuals are intentionally understated, ensuring that the maze remains the focal point while still providing a pleasant backdrop. This approach works well in maintaining clarity, as players can easily track their position and plan their movements without distraction. The audio design complements this tone, featuring gentle, looping music that reinforces the relaxed pace of play. While neither the visuals nor the sound design are particularly elaborate, they contribute to a cohesive and tranquil atmosphere. Despite its strengths in presentation and accessibility, the game’s limitations become more apparent over time. The core gameplay does not evolve, and the lack of new mechanics means that each level feels like a variation of the last. While the increasing complexity of the mazes offers some sense of progression, it does not fundamentally change the experience. This can lead to a feeling of monotony, especially during extended play sessions, as the player’s actions remain the same from beginning to end. The game’s length reflects its focused design. Levels are relatively short, and the entire experience can be completed in a modest amount of time. This brevity helps prevent the repetition from becoming overwhelming, but it also limits the game’s long-term appeal. Once all levels have been completed, there is little incentive to return, as there are no additional modes or variations to explore. Replayability is therefore minimal, relying primarily on the player’s enjoyment of the maze-solving process itself. In the end, aMAZE Lunar is a clear example of a game that succeeds within a very narrow scope. It offers a clean, accessible, and relaxing puzzle experience that is easy to engage with and consistent in its design. However, its lack of innovation and variety prevent it from standing out, even within its own series. It works best as a short, calming diversion for players who appreciate simple, methodical challenges, but it is unlikely to leave a lasting impression beyond that. Rating: 6/10

OMG! This game is gorgeous! I love everything about this! I love all the Chinese elements, the levels are represented by Chinese Lanterns, and it's so much fun to find all the pieces of the Chinese Lion and then transport the coin to the star! The upbeat music is also so fun to listen to! Everyone should own this game!

It's just another aMaze game, this time it's Chinese themed. Once you've played one, you've played all of them. There's not much challenge. Just collect some pieces and get to the goal. No obstacles, just lots of dead-ends. If you like these games, it may be something for you. But for me, it feels very copy-pasted. It's the same game with different mazes. Date of completion: August 12 2020. Review: Another boring chore off my list; the graphics, background images and music are okay, the gameplay's the same as all the holiday themed aMAZE games. Worst of all, despite being store-bought, the Achievements don't count towards the "Perfect Games" for your profile, so all your tedious efforts will virtually be for nothing and the game developers won't do a thing about that. 😒
