About
'AGAINST' is a rhythmic journey through crime-ridden streets and their phantasmagoric seamy side.
Dodge obstacles, run up walls - all the while picking off your enemies as the pounding music builds. Use your mind and muscle memory to banish evil and find answers.
Fierce songs combined with rhythmic combat with a gritty comics aesthetic make for a truly unique experience.
Slice the henchmen with your sword and mow them down with your gun - but do it rhythmically for points and pleasure. Brass knuckles and a Tommy Gun will complement your arsenal.
We’ve paid loving attention to the dark and gritty comic book style. Set in 1930s America, the story of Dr. Vice’s terrifying ambitions is revealed through comic book cutscenes full of dimmed colors and frightening shadows.
Dispatch villains to the beat as you make progress in the investigation. At the end of each chapter, take on the boss in sync with a musical climax.
Finish a complete storyline about the confrontation of Detective and Dr. Vice in 7 levels, all available in 3 difficulties. The chapters are set in different locations, each with its own unique touch.
Against Beatmap Editor is a free tool that allows you to create your own maps using your own music. Using this editor you can place enemies, weapons and obstacles in perfect synchronization with your music. Then you can play your custom maps in AGAINST.

One of those hidden gems you need to play.
Very enjoyable, good exercise. I found it well tuned to the music, so you can transition into higher difficulties by ear more than by eye. As a nitpick, the "movement" commands (blue arrows) didn't always trigger properly, even when executed at the right time, but I attribute that more to my device (Quest 2) than to the game itself.
Good idea - well implemented.
офигенная игра мне зашла
AGAINST is a bold and stylistically driven VR action experience that attempts to fuse rhythm gameplay, physical combat, and noir-inspired storytelling into a single, tightly focused package. Developed and published by Joy Way, the game positions itself at the intersection of music-driven titles and immersive VR shooters, asking players not only to fight enemies, but to do so in harmony with a relentless, beat-heavy soundtrack. From the very beginning, AGAINST makes it clear that timing, movement, and atmosphere are inseparable parts of its identity, and that success depends as much on feeling the rhythm as it does on mechanical accuracy. The world of AGAINST is presented through a striking comic-book aesthetic steeped in noir sensibilities. Dark cityscapes, sharp contrasts, and stylized environments evoke the feeling of a pulp detective story brought to life, where corruption, crime, and violence dominate the streets. The narrative follows a lone protagonist standing against the criminal influence of the enigmatic Dr. Vice, with story beats delivered through cinematic comic panels and brief textual interludes. While the story is not deeply complex, it serves its purpose well, providing context and motivation without distracting from the game’s core focus on action and rhythm. The tone remains consistent throughout, reinforcing the gritty atmosphere and giving the campaign a cohesive sense of style. Gameplay is where AGAINST truly defines itself. Combat is built around synchronizing actions with the beat of the music, transforming every encounter into a kinetic performance. Shooting enemies, slashing with melee weapons, dodging attacks, and even moving through the environment are all encouraged to align with rhythmic cues. This design creates a constant forward momentum, pushing players to stay engaged and physically active rather than falling into passive shooting habits. When everything clicks, combat feels fluid and empowering, as if the player is dancing through danger rather than simply reacting to it. The arsenal available to players blends ranged firearms with close-quarters melee weapons, allowing for varied approaches to each encounter. Switching between guns and blades mid-fight keeps combat dynamic and encourages spatial awareness, especially as enemies approach from multiple angles. Boss encounters are a particular highlight, escalating both mechanical complexity and musical intensity, demanding precise timing and confident movement. These battles serve as effective climaxes to each chapter, reinforcing the game’s emphasis on rhythm mastery and physical immersion. Level design supports this rhythm-focused philosophy by encouraging constant motion. Players are often required to run along walls, dodge incoming fire, and reposition quickly while staying on beat. Environmental hazards and enemy patterns are carefully synchronized with the soundtrack, making the music an active gameplay element rather than background noise. This approach elevates AGAINST above more conventional VR shooters, as success relies on developing an intuitive sense of rhythm and flow rather than simply aiming well. One of the game’s most compelling features is its Beatmap Editor, which allows players to create custom levels using their own music. This tool significantly expands the game’s longevity, giving creative players the freedom to design encounters that match their personal taste in sound and challenge. By placing enemies, obstacles, and weapons in sync with custom tracks, players can effectively turn AGAINST into a sandbox for rhythm-combat experimentation. This feature adds meaningful replay value and opens the door to community-driven content, which is especially valuable given the game’s relatively compact main campaign. Despite its ambition, AGAINST is not without shortcomings. The reliance on precise rhythm and physical timing means that player experience can vary depending on VR hardware, tracking quality, and calibration. Inconsistent tracking or controller responsiveness can disrupt the flow of combat, making missed beats feel more like technical issues than player error. Additionally, some players have expressed concerns about pacing and content volume, noting that while the core mechanics are strong, the overall experience can feel brief without heavy engagement in custom content. From a presentation standpoint, the audiovisual design is one of the game’s strongest assets. The soundtrack is energetic and driving, perfectly suited to the rhythm-based combat, while sound effects and visual feedback reinforce successful actions in a satisfying way. Visually, the comic-inspired art style ensures that the game remains memorable even without photorealistic detail, using strong silhouettes and lighting to maintain clarity in fast-paced VR combat. Ultimately, AGAINST is a confident and experimental VR title that thrives on its commitment to rhythm-driven action and bold visual identity. It may not appeal to players looking for a long, story-heavy VR adventure or those sensitive to physically demanding gameplay, but for fans of rhythm games, stylized shooters, and immersive VR experiences, it offers something genuinely distinctive. Its blend of music, movement, and combat creates moments of exhilarating flow that stand out within the VR landscape, making AGAINST a noteworthy entry for players willing to meet its demands and move to its beat. Rating: 7/10
Enjoyed the game when it first came out in early access but sadly it stopped being updated and released unfinished. Has maybe 1-2 hours of story game play and the option for custom songs. Would not recommend getting at full price if still interested.
seems like joy way just made stride and then decided to become exclusively terrible/meh at best. the game isn't even all that fun and it's also abandoned like every other joy way game since STRIDE. the release date is wrong. the last patch was on June 1st 2022.
очень сложно.только для хардкорщиков или играйте на минимально сложности
