About
It was supposed to be like any other stroll through the woods.
You didn't intend to be here. But you are, trapped in a cavernous labyrinth with only a torch and your instincts to escape. You hear a noise.
You realize you are not alone. How will you escape this place alive?
This enormous place doesn't seem right. With each exploration a new catacomb is generated. Go through many floors of the dungeon, descending into darkness while searching for a way out.
Your chances of survival once your torch extinguishes are dire. There may be some braziers for you to light, but your main source of light is in your hands. Do not let it die
There is a story to this place. What has happened here might give you tips on how to escape.
Or do they only foretell your doom?
Afterlight Catacombs is a first-person adventure-horror-survival game featuring procedural level generation, inventory management, and maze navigation.
In the experience, you will start in a dark catacomb. Find a torch to light the way, and encounter a mysterious creature. Do not let it see you! It’s very dangerous and is “moderately to extremely” violent up close.
Use chalk to mark your path so you don’t get lost in the maze. You can keep chalk in your inventory. Afterlight Catacombs features a slot-based inventory system that provides room for different sized items. Inventory items include the torch; chalk; bandages; oil flasks; and a slot for up to one key at a time. There are three collectable “lore” items as well that will unlock Steam Achievements.
In each level, manage your inventory, avoid the snuffer, and then navigate your way until you find the skull gate. It’s very large, you will know when you find it! Some gates require a key to open; others will open when you throw a lever hidden somewhere in the level.
To complete the game, solve all five mazes without being caught by the snuffer. The catacombs are magic and each time you play, the maze will be different. No two playthroughs will be the same!
After completing the fifth level, you will be very close to escaping the catacombs. But beware! You must confront the snuffer and defeat it in a close encounter to regain your freedom!
Afterlight catacombs has simulated violence featuring a humanoid creature that will attack you if you get too close. The creature will strike you with its limbs. When your health depletes, the creature will jump over you, it will scream, and your playthrough for the given life will end.
Afterlight catacombs does not include any references to drugs or sex.

Reviews
"Afterlight Catacombs" is a first-person adventure-horror-survival game. Players navigate procedurally generated catacombs, managing resources and evading a mysterious creature known as the Snuffer. Pros: - Atmospheric Design: The game effectively creates a tense and immersive environment, enhancing the horror experience. - Procedural Generation: Each playthrough offers a unique layout, increasing replayability and unpredictability. - Resource Management: Players must strategically manage items like torches, chalk, and bandages, adding depth to the gameplay. Cons: - Technical Issues with Filters: Some players have reported problems with visual filters, such as the VHS effect, which can detract from the overall experience. - Limited Level Variation: Despite procedural generation, the game lacks significant new elements in each level, leading to repetitive gameplay. - Absence of Save Points: The lack of save points requires players to complete the game in one sitting, which can be frustrating for those with limited time. In conclusion, "Afterlight Catacombs" offers an engaging horror experience with its atmospheric design and resource management mechanics. However, technical issues, repetitive level design, and the absence of save points may hinder the overall enjoyment for some players. Score: 6 out of 10 flickering torches—A dimly lit journey with potential, but watch your step.
Charming retro fantasy horror game, with an interesting gameplay loop and strong atmosphere! Recommended to those that would enjoy the fantasy of delving into an ancient tomb, but instead of being the hero who vanquishes evil, you are hunted down reletlessly by a terrible creature, you can't fight it, you can survive it. You can see there's lore hidden away, the achievments help you piece it together and there are interesting notes to be found. Very cool game, recommended 100%
A nice horror game with the right amount of challenge. Provides a good amount of jumpscares. The exploration is interesting, the graphics good old PSX-like and the hidden lore is very interesting. Totally worth it for the price!
