Shockingly bad. This is the most amateurish release I have ever played. The options menu contains nothing but a choice of four graphical states: Low, Medium, High, and Ultra. In Ultra, the graphics look great! In Medium, they're rough and pixelated as hell. Guess what? Every time you start up the game, it defaults you back to Medium. The opening island is decently sized, yet contained. The problem is that crags, cracks & crevices abound. This means you can be walking along, fall into one of these... and then find your character doing the typical "frozen in midair falling" thing. If you're lucky, you can move around enough to gain control and jump back out. If it's deep enough, you've gotta reload. (The game does at least autosave after every action of progress.) The quest logic is damn near broken. The priest of Apollo tells me I can find a merchant in the south center of the island. Great — but wait, which way is south? You have no map and no compass, so who knows. Turns out you just have to follow the GIANT STONE ARROW that's constantly (ugh) floating above your head. But of course it only points along a vector to the destination, and not the path you'll need to take to get there. Which means if you're following it blindly, you'll probably fall into one of those damn cracks. Oh, here's a woman at a stall! Is that the merchant I'm looking for? Go up and talk to her and... the character says "The priestess of Apollo told me to get a basket of pomegranates." Uhhhh... no she didn't? I've never spoken to any priestess. *facepalm* By the way, that "objective" arrow? Twice in my short experience it led me to... a random patch of grass. With nothing in it. Far more ludicrous was the glitch where I picked some apples, and yet the arrow kept pointing to the tree. Walking away from it, I found just a few steps away... a duplicate of my player character. Stuck in an animation loop of apple picking. WTF. The writing is abysmal. You'll have dialogue exchanges like "Go and bring me the key." "I will bring you the key." By the way, there is zero introduction, aside from a few lines of narration stating that you went through a portal and now you're back in ancient Greece. Wow. Lotta depth there. However. The utterly most baffling, absolutely worst thing? EVERY CHARACTER IS VOICED BY AI. With all the broken cadence you'd expect. The main character seems to have the worst AI voice model, by the way; everything she says is in a flat robotic monotone. Why on earth would you do that?? The visuals can be pretty impressive. The level design (apart from the awful cracks) is decent enough. I don't know how many eras this thing covers — but if it's even a half dozen, that means a decent amount of resources went into this. That being the case, how the HELL do you spend all that time and money, then decide at the end "Oh, robo-voices are just fine." What the hell is wrong with you???? The game retails for $4.99. By chance, I bought it during a Steam sale for $0.79. I still feel robbed. And I'm still going to refund it. Not because that $0.79 means anything to me. But because I never want to see this abomination in my library ever again.
Where's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ key?
Aeon Tempus is a narrative-driven action-adventure developed by Hüseyin Akkaya and published by Ephesus Creative that combines historical exploration, mystery-solving, and time-travel concepts into an ambitious interactive experience. Instead of transporting players into a fictional fantasy universe, the game draws heavily from real civilizations and historical events, allowing them to step into different eras and witness the rise, struggles, and achievements of ancient societies. Through its blend of storytelling, environmental puzzles, and player-driven choices, the game presents history not as a collection of static facts but as a living world filled with secrets waiting to be uncovered. At the center of the adventure is a researcher gifted with the ability to move through time. This premise immediately opens the door to a wide variety of settings and narrative possibilities. Players are not confined to a single location or period but instead travel across different civilizations, encountering unique cultures, political conflicts, and historical mysteries. The game uses this framework to create a sense of discovery that constantly pushes the player forward. Every era visited feels like a new chapter in a much larger journey, encouraging curiosity about both the world and the events that shaped it. Exploration serves as one of the strongest pillars of the experience. Ancient cities, sacred temples, forgotten ruins, and historical landmarks are more than simple scenery. They function as interactive spaces filled with clues, hidden artifacts, and pieces of lore that gradually reveal the larger story. The game rewards players who pay attention to details and take the time to investigate their surroundings. Rather than rushing through environments, players are encouraged to absorb the atmosphere and uncover the significance behind what they find. Puzzle-solving plays a major role in progression and helps differentiate Aeon Tempus from more combat-oriented adventures. Many challenges require careful observation, logical thinking, and an understanding of the historical context surrounding a location. Ancient mechanisms, cryptic symbols, and environmental clues frequently stand between the player and their next objective. These puzzles are integrated naturally into the world, making them feel like genuine discoveries rather than artificial obstacles placed along the path. The narrative is one of the game's most compelling elements. Rather than presenting a straightforward linear story, Aeon Tempus explores the consequences of time travel and the responsibilities that come with influencing history. Players are frequently placed in situations where their choices carry weight. Certain decisions can alter events, affect relationships, or influence how particular storylines unfold. This focus on choice creates a greater sense of agency and encourages players to think carefully about the impact of their actions. Political intrigue and cultural conflict add further depth to the experience. As players interact with historical figures and influential members of various societies, they become involved in disputes that extend beyond simple good-versus-evil storytelling. Questions of leadership, tradition, power, and progress often emerge throughout the journey. These themes help give the narrative maturity and make the historical settings feel more believable and engaging. The game's treatment of history is particularly noteworthy. Rather than merely using historical locations as decorative backgrounds, Aeon Tempus attempts to celebrate the cultures it depicts. Architecture, traditions, and societal structures play important roles in shaping each region. This attention to historical inspiration gives the adventure a distinctive educational quality without ever feeling like a textbook. Players learn about civilizations through direct interaction and exploration rather than through lengthy exposition. Visually, Aeon Tempus aims to capture the grandeur and beauty of ancient societies. The environments are designed to evoke a sense of wonder, from monumental structures to atmospheric landscapes that reflect the identity of each civilization. The world feels diverse and varied, ensuring that each new destination offers something visually distinct. This variety helps maintain a sense of excitement throughout the adventure and reinforces the feeling of traveling across different eras. The audio design also contributes significantly to immersion. Music inspired by historical themes helps establish the mood of each location, while environmental sounds create a stronger sense of presence within the world. Combined with the game's cinematic presentation, these elements help transform exploration into a memorable experience. The emphasis on atmosphere allows players to become fully absorbed in the environments they visit. Another strength lies in the game's commitment to creating a responsive world. Characters react to player decisions, events evolve based on actions taken, and certain outcomes can change depending on the choices made during key moments. This dynamic structure enhances replayability and encourages players to revisit the adventure to explore alternative possibilities and narrative paths. Aeon Tempus succeeds because it combines multiple appealing concepts into a cohesive whole. Historical exploration, time-travel storytelling, puzzle-solving, and meaningful decision-making all support one another rather than competing for attention. The result is an adventure that feels thoughtful, immersive, and ambitious. While players seeking nonstop action may find its pacing more deliberate, those who enjoy story-focused experiences rich in atmosphere and discovery will find plenty to appreciate. Ultimately, Aeon Tempus offers a compelling journey through history that balances entertainment with exploration and mystery. Its focus on ancient civilizations, narrative depth, and player choice creates an experience that stands apart from more conventional action-adventure games. By allowing players to explore the past while questioning the consequences of altering it, the game delivers a memorable adventure that is both intellectually engaging and emotionally rewarding.
