Ace In Space

Beautiful otome/visual novel game seen through the eyes of a young cancer patient. The ace/enby representation is perfection and though the game is short, it has replay value. I love how diverse the characters are, and how unique the story is. (This is a great game to pick up to get hyped for pride or just in general.) I hope the creators make many more games in the future! 11/10 from me <3

I found this game in the Season of Pride Sale 2021 and I thought "hell yea, I need this". It took me about 5 hours to finish and get all achievements, would have taken less time if I had been a bit smarter about figuring out how to get the ones I was missing. For what it's worth, I played on Linux with proton and it worked flawlessly. Now for the question, do I recommend this game? Yes, I do, but not to everyone. If you: - Are looking for a game with more gameplay than a visual novel with a handful of choices - Don't want LGBT themes that are literally right there in the game description - Rather not have a game where the main char has cancer [spoiler](and can die from it)[/spoiler] - Need a game with a guaranteed happy ending then this game isn't for you. Especially the first part of the game was very long, with just text to read and more text to read, it took at least half an hour to arrive at the first choice. Other than that, the visual style of the game is very cute, even if I found the pixel font very hard to read after a while. The music is good, too, and I am saying that as someone who usually turns the music off in games, but left it on this time. There are more than enough save slots, autosaves and quicksaves. The skip function is super nice, allowing you to skip right to the choices you can make, automatically slowing down if you reach a branch you haven't seen before. Makes replaying to get all the different endings super easy. There is only so much background story and character development you can put into a 1-2h game, but I ended up really liking the characters. Some conversations were blatantly made to educate/elaborate on some topics, but it was fitting for the storyline and didn't feel out of place, at least to me. The thing that bothered me most in the end were the endings. Spoilers ahead: [spoiler]Perhaps that's my own fault, but I didn't expect going into a "dating sim" where some benevolent species abducts me to heal me and end up dying anyway. In almost every path. The only way not to die is following exactly two consecutive choices, the second one being "meet with one of the other npcs" or "go to your treatment", making it impossible to date anyone but Zipper and survive. Don't get me wrong, all those endings were still touching and fitting, but that just left me feeling meh.[/spoiler]

I definitely don’t feel I’m at the right age to really connect with Ace in Space. The game functions as a short yet wholesome teen romance. The game is cute though. If you are a teen that is asexual or non-binary looking for representation in a dating sim, this might be something worth checking out.

An enjoyable, short-ish game featuring a non-binary ace protagonist whisked away by aliens to live out (or prolong) the rest of their life. While it's labelled as a dating sim (and there are indeed robots and a human to date), it is at least as much about your character's medical condition and journey, and the support they get along the way. Even 'bad' endings and failed dates add to your story, the same way the game encourages you to enjoy life while you have it. I would suggest playing as many routes as you can, to flesh out the characters.

I really enjoyed this game, it tried to tackle dating sims in a different way and I really respect that a lot. It definitely doesn't play like a normal dating sim and it feels as though the main focus of the game was to be more of an educational device to inform people on the nuances of asexuality and non-binary identities. The characters were cute and I wish the game had been longer just to expand on them more and let them have more space for their personalities to come through, but overall it was still a cute game and didn't take a lot of time to get all the achievements. It's definitely worth playing at least once, I think.

I would have wished for more happy endings - even if it meant the game went on for longer, it kind of feels rushed and, honestly I expected to have more choices, for a relationship to also affect how Enby wanted to live and how they chose to live. There's nothing like that, only they making sometimes bad choices that I can't override, with me unable to try and get a better life. I'm not going to play it again, I think. I like the characters and part of the story, I just wish it could be more. I admit the game is complete and that it makes sense, I just prefer more happy endings instead of sad ones.

Let me point it out right at the beginning: this game hit closer to home than I initially expected it, and not in a bad way. As someone on the ace spectrum and being chronically ill, seeing a game about both subjects made me absolutely thrilled, and I wasn't disappointed in the execution. The only con I could bring up is that routes could be a little more polished and sometimes they feel a little rushed, but besides all that this game is an absolute treat. But remember to bring tissues, because it will be a rollercoaster.

The game is nice (I personally don't like it, but others might). I have played a bit and I like the style. I don't regret spending my money on this game. I think the dialogue drags on way too long (you kind of have to lock in for this game). And so far, the story seems a bit jank. Not that it's particularly bad, but I think it's too convenient that a robot from who knows where, with a planet exactly the same as Earth, trying to help humans, would be realistic. I wish there was at least some realism regarding that. I haven't gotten too far (so I might be inaccurate in the tone and quality of this game), but so far I think that the backstory and whatnot is a bit poorly made. I recommend this if you like something more unserious. I just think this game isn't for me or is made for me as an audience. But hey, it's cheap anyway, I'm glad I supported the creator. And I'm glad there is a game about asexuals (the asexual colors are very nice)!

I am in LOOOVE with this game! I must mention, however, there's not a whole lot of options to be made (in comparison with similar games I've personally played), but if reading a lot isn't an issue, then I'd say go for it! I've only known all the characters for about 5 hours of my life, but I'd die for any of them; they're all really likable and charming in their own, different ways! The topics this game discusses are also very interesting and important, and while this comment won't make sense to those who haven't played yet, one particular conversation with Fern low key shook me to the core LMFAO. Don't even get me STARTED with Sero's ending... I didn't at all expect these sadder turns in the game, but I love it! In general, if you love space, aliens, and robots, then I HIGHLY recommend this game :] I love these topics, and it reached far past my initial expectations; very glad I ran into this game! <333
