About
ABOVE is a narrative-based, atmospheric psychological horror game set entirely in broad daylight.
You play as Joyce, a lone park ranger stranded beside her disabled car on a remote desert road in Idaho.
The engine is dead. There is no respite. Only temporary shelter, open ground, and the growing sense that something above you is watching, listening, and waiting.
Explore the surrounding landscape, discover pieces of a scattered diary and unsettling radio exchanges that slowly piece together a deeply personal and tragic story about family, guilt, and sacrifice. This is a compact, story-driven experience designed to be completed in a single sitting. ABOVE favors atmosphere, tension, and emotional impact over traditional horror mechanics, asking not how you fight, but how you endure.
A minimalist survival experience with environmental fight back mechanics
Sound-based tension where your actions can attract unwanted attention
Exploration in a wide, open desert with limited and temporary safety
Tools that help you observe the environment and sometimes what moves within it
Risk–reward decisions where being noticed can be fatal
Environmental objectives that require planning, timing, and nerve
Subtle systemic pressure that escalates with every mistake
Designed to be completed in a single, intense sitting
Atmospheric psychological horror experience
Set during the day
Story-driven narrative revealed through exploration and dialogue
Sound-based mechanics where only specific noises attract danger
No combat: survival through movement, awareness, and timing
Procedurally randomized objectives for replayability
This game contains themes of psychological distress, loss, and sacrifice.
There is no graphic violence.

this nailed the dread factor. its like a bad dream you cant wake up from, running through the sand while something hunts you. stuck with me after i closed it. props to the team
honestly didnt think a free game could hook me like this. the UFO chasing you around is terrifiying in the best way and the desert at daytime is such a cool idea. ran great on my rig too. cant wait for more!
Above was a short but enjoyable demo that I liked because of its nice atmosphere, smooth gameplay, and tense feeling. I especially liked how the creature follows you and makes you choose your hiding spots carefully, which adds a lot of excitement to the game. The visuals are also very good, and even though the story is short, it makes you curious about what comes next. Overall, I enjoyed the game, would like to see the full version, and definitely recommend giving it a try.

Really good one. Started off a bit confused but figured it out pretty quickly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQwPsHnxnJM
Overview
This demo took me about 42 minutes to complete, and I managed to earn 10 out of the 20 achievements along the way. That feels like a pretty average playtime. So far, the game is shaping up to be a challenging experience with the early foundations of a rich storyline—or at least a very promising start. It’s a short demo, but it gives you just enough to taste what the full game might become… or maybe tease is the better word. As much as I want to complain that it ended too soon, it works well as a "trailer" for what’s clearly only the beginning of something bigger.
The father/daughter ending landed surprisingly well—grounded, emotional, and believable. It wraps up the demo with that perfect “wait… what happens next?” feeling.

Review Details
For anyone interested, here’s a deeper look at my gameplay experience.
The Likes
[olist] [*] A classic survivor‑style scenario where you’re left to figure things out as you go. [*] Realistic mechanics — for example, your character actually gets tired when running. [/olist]
The Dislikes
[olist] [*] Simple commands can be frustrating to figure out, especially with no hover‑over tooltips. [*]
There’s no setup narration explaining what you’re stepping into. The father/daughter dialogue suggests they already understand the disaster, which adds to the confusion when the player doesn’t — especially with no command labels to help you turn things on.
[*] No map.
You’d expect a ranger to have one marking the perimeter and the lights you need to activate — unless this isn’t her usual area, in which case that context would be important to share.
[/olist]
The Wishes
I know some of these ideas may already be on the devs’ radar, but here’s what I’d love to see in the future: [olist] [*] An intro or cinematic to help players understand what they’re walking into. [/olist]
The Finds
A few oddities I ran into during my playthrough: [olist] [*] I didn’t encounter any bugs or anything that felt out of place. [/olist]

Note to Developers: Wishing you continued success as you grow this game into something even more incredible. I’m rooting for you — and excited to see where this journey goes next.
Good game, with a decent story. Horror games where you can die fairly easily always struggle a bit, for me. Once you've died a few times, all fear has dissipated and you border on annoyance. Horror works best when the game pretends it's going to kill you, but never really does, Anyway, I'd like to see an extended version where we have more locations, more characters and more Lore.
really tense little experience. the creature AI keeps you moving. it does get a bit repetitive by the last few generators but for free i cant complain much. good audio work
Performance was solid for me: locked 60 on a 3060 at 1440p. Only nitpick is the stamina has no indicator so you kinda guess... still recommend
Well it's a very short game lol. I like the setting and the idea, but in the end there's not much to do. You'll run around, turn on generators and flee from a cloud. Well and... that's it. It's a shame that a great idea turns boring so quickly. Rating: 3/10 IMO
I went in expecting nothing and came out genuinly impressed. The sound design is the star here, you hear the thing before you see it and it makes every open stretch feel dangerous. Voice acting is suprisingly good for an indie. Yes its short but it left me wanting the full game which is exactly what a demo should do.
