its a unique concept, but the game sucks ass. its obviously a clone of buckshot roulette. i paid 47 cents for this and i still want a refund. this should've been a free game jam game on itch,io. If more effort was put into this is totally could've been a good game, but it isn't. i did only pay 47 cents tho so you get what you pay for i guess.

A Short Russian Blackjack Game is a very small game built around a pretty simple but messed up idea. I am playing blackjack, but losing a round means I have to take my chances with a loaded revolver. That is basically the entire hook, and honestly I think it works because the game gets straight to the point. I am trying to get as close to 21 as possible, knowing that a bad decision or unlucky hand can turn a normal card game into something much more serious. The blackjack itself is straightforward. I can deal, hit or stay depending on the cards I have, and the goal is simply to beat the opposing hand without going over 21. What makes the decisions feel different is that losing is not just a normal game over. The Russian roulette element gives every hand some extra tension because I know there is an actual consequence attached to getting the cards wrong. I like that the game does not bury the idea under loads of unnecessary mechanics. The atmosphere also helps quite a bit. The game uses a first person 3D presentation and has a darker psychological horror feeling, which makes the otherwise ordinary card game feel much more uncomfortable. The combination of cards, a revolver and the possibility of death is obviously designed to create tension rather than provide a deep gambling simulation. I think the strange combination gives it enough personality to stand out from a normal blackjack game, even though there is not a huge amount happening underneath the main concept. The biggest problem for me is the lack of depth. Once I understand the blackjack rules and the punishment for losing, there is not much else for me to learn. The game is specifically advertised as a short experience, and I think that is important when judging it. I cannot expect a full card based roguelike or a large horror game from something this small. Still, after the initial idea has stopped being surprising, there is not a lot keeping me there. The whole experience depends heavily on whether I enjoy repeating the same basic gamble. I also think the randomness can make the experience feel more like luck than strategy. Blackjack already involves chance, and adding the revolver consequence makes unlucky rounds feel even more important. I can make sensible decisions with my cards, but I cannot completely control the result. That is fine for the concept, although it means I do not get the same feeling of mastery that I would get from a deeper strategy game. The mature content is also very direct, with violence, weapons, murder and suicide being part of the presentation, so it is definitely not trying to be a lighthearted card game. Overall, A Short Russian Blackjack Game is a decent little experiment that gets a surprising amount of tension out of a very basic idea. I like the simple blackjack rules, the first person presentation and the uncomfortable twist where losing a hand puts my life at risk. The problem is that there is not enough depth or variety to make it something I would keep playing for a long time. For me, it works best as a short and unusual free game that I can try once or twice for the idea rather than something I would treat as a full strategy experience. Rating: 6.7/10
