The little town of Shady Hollow is known for dark legends of centuries past. The most famous of these is the legend of the Witch of Shady Hollow, a phantom woman who haunts the descendants of those who wrongfully condemned her of being a witch.

The game worked for me and it looks good. There wasn't much to do and the 3 hours I spent meticulously searching the playable area backs me up on this. Do I recommend this game? When the game is complete, YES I would recommend it to anyone who likes this genre. It shows promise and would be scary for anyone in this situation IRL. As long as the devs finish the game and it turns out to be as creepy as it should be then it is well worth the $5 usd price and your purchase would likely help the devs with completion. There is about 10 minutes of gameplay available right now and should be around an hour of gameplay when the game is finished according to a developer. ... !! SPOILERS !! ... Don't read any further if you don't want to know EVERYTHING that DID happen. I walked around and read a doctors patient notes. The girl keeps talking about a security code in a desk that is in a room without a desk, ran out of time, gameover, retry, repeat. Finally found the code (not in a desk). Searching, I found the bathroom. I was leary of it immediately as the door opened. Found a baghead just standing in the shower and he couldn't care less about our bag-to-face encounter. So, I gave up on him, walked out of the bathroom, girl left her phone in the doc's office, I go get it, I come back to her still standing beside the bathroom door. Invisible something grabs her, slams her all over the hallway and drags her into the unknown. Dark figure appears crawling on the walls and poof, back to creepy normality. Searched for her the rest of the time inside the playable area and nothing to show for it and that is because I had completed everything there was to do as of this review.

Avoid Like The Plauge. A Haunting: Witching Hour is an extremely broken game with stupid movement controlls. To even get into the game you'll need an xbox game pad just for 1 button before the Vive controllers come into play. As some one who's played a lot of VR games this has to be perhaps the single worst I've ever experienced. Which is sad given the trailer makes it look good. Refunded.
First off I wanna thank Don from Enyx Studios for lending us a Beta Version Press Key before the release on Halloween. From what we've played (Tessa and Paul) cause we both run a podcast that Don was part of an interview Episode talking about this game. Interview Episode can be found here: Don Hileman from Enyx Studios Interview Now, from the very start of the beta was an Asylum location that felt abandoned but empty. Walking around empty hallways and corridors to broken down walls and hardly any sign of an Asylum, while reporting bugs to Don and etc to help make this game what it will one day be. Don gave me the code to the alarm system in case I couldn't find the document that was right on the table in the room that we first started in. With that being said, it was an honor to see our names on the floor inside the Asylum at the time. I don't know if our names are inside the game now on a floor or wall, but it was really cool to see our names on a game that we are beta testing. Since the hallways and rooms and corridors didn't have much stuff, unless we found ourselves in an important room let's say like seeing shelfs or a desk with a phone or etc. But the graphics from when we first saw their teaser trailer with the dubbed down graphics, I STILL had hope for this studio cause I could def see what they were trying to do. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now let's talk about the updated finally released version of the game. Once I got the new update on Halloween, I dived back into the game and was amazed not only because of the graphics, but the enivirnoment has changed from an Asylum to an Orphanage. The graphics have improved so much over the course of months if not a year? Depending on if it's been a year since the first ever teaser trailer. Anywho yes the graphics have gone under so much improvements that it amazes us, because this is a new indie studio just starting out. They are showing what they can do, once they've been given enough time to give to drastically improve everything, I mean it's VR and Non VR that even works on my PC. Which I don't even have the greatest laptop ever but I'm very impressed it can play without any lag what so ever. Gameplay is just like beta version only slightly now more better with Emily talking and guiding us to clues and rooms we need to "investigate" to find useful items. Sad thing and I know it's early access which is great don't get me wrong but at the time being, there's probably 10 minutes of actual gameplay for now as the studio will fix and add things as the weeks and months go by that will help turn A Haunting Witching Hour into the horror series we will soon adore. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since that is out of the way, let's talk about the music. Who here LOVES soundtracks to games? I do! Like listen to that main menu music..... I could listen to that hours on end. Just saying, now they just need to release the Soundtrack in the future when the game is fully complete and I'd be in heaven :)
I don't know if this thing can be called a game, it feels like a super short experiment, but that is not the only downside. I played the Non-VR version of it and here are some other things I didn't like: - Weird walking and running feel, like your character is on some rails, and when he runs, he runs super fast. Looking around with mouse feels wrong, like the mouse is delayed, although walking and mouse speed settings are available in the game options menu. - The mouse is not working in the main menu, you have to use arrow keys and E. - Controls in the in-game tutorial text are always displayed as a controller, instead of a keyboard - The story delivered through notes scattered randomly through the house (I'm not a fan of that) - You find one key and you don't get to use it - Most in not all doors remain locked - Poor level design - Outdated graphics and some objects even glow in the dark - Not much of an eerie atmosphere - The ridiculously frustrating way of opening cabinets and doors even in the Non-VR mode. - Weird wooden structure area in the house that I didn't like, it felt too much out of place. - Supershort gameplay, less than 15 minutes for me, but youtubers finished it in 7 minutes playing normally (I guess I explored a bit more). - Not scary, except for one pretty forced jumpscare that got me good. I really wanted to like this game, but after playing through this, I just can't. I hope the developer does a much much better reboot, as he's saying he is working on and he sounds ambitious. This thought is the only thing that keeps me from getting a refund on this game.
