There is nothing wrong with a crude joke here and there, but [i]A Dump in the Dark[/i] is one such joke executed in a manner so terrible that even the unserious would not be entertained. For one, the poor level designs make completing objectives nearly impossible with uneven terrain turning running into irksome racewalking and there are moments when the geometry is so bad that the play can get caught on the smallest of objects or have to restart the level entirely when stuck. When players are not in levels where they have to move, they are in levels where they have to manipulate props clumsily, in an almost pitch-black environment, and there will be times when props get stuff or fall out of reach which makes the game more unplayable than it already is. Because there are no subtitles, players will have no idea what the story is (outside of level descriptions) as a lot of the dialogue is overshadowed by loud sound effects and active scenes that do not allow players to at least stop and listen to whatever story Oubliette had haphazardly concocted. Although this product is $3, it is ultimately a waste of time and to call it anything more than a poorly-functioning cheap laugh is generous.
