Classic! Good heartwarming story, fun characters, good puzzles. Enchanting artwork.
Cute game but definitely for kids. Not my kind of game but well made. Be sure to check controller settings and compatibility in Steam settings as it's a bit outdated now.
Bastante bueno.
Developed by WayForward and brought to PC by Abstraction Games, with publishing handled by Ziggurat, A Boy and His Blob is a thoughtful reimagining of a beloved classic that proves simple ideas can still create memorable adventures. Rather than relying on combat-heavy gameplay or cinematic spectacle, it builds its identity around cooperation, exploration, and clever problem-solving. The game follows a young boy who befriends a mysterious alien Blob capable of transforming into a variety of useful objects after being fed different flavored jelly beans. Together, they embark on a journey to save the Blob's home world, creating a story centered on friendship and trust that is easy to appreciate for players of any age. The game's defining feature is its transformation mechanic, which serves as the foundation for every puzzle and obstacle. Each jelly bean grants the Blob a different form, ranging from ladders and parachutes to bridges, trampolines, balloons, and several other practical tools. Every new ability gradually expands the possibilities within each stage, encouraging experimentation and logical thinking instead of reflex-based gameplay. Progression feels rewarding because new challenges consistently introduce fresh ways to combine transformations, making puzzle design both varied and satisfying without becoming unnecessarily complicated. Platforming complements the puzzle elements with accessible controls and forgiving difficulty. While enemies and environmental hazards are present throughout the adventure, direct combat is almost nonexistent. Instead, players succeed by using the Blob's abilities creatively to bypass threats, navigate obstacles, and uncover hidden paths. This emphasis on peaceful problem-solving gives the game a distinctive identity among platformers. Optional treasure chests scattered across the levels reward exploration, giving completionists an extra incentive to revisit stages and search for every hidden collectible. One of the most remarkable aspects of A Boy and His Blob is its presentation. Every environment resembles a beautifully illustrated storybook filled with hand-drawn artwork and fluid animation. Forests, underground caverns, icy landscapes, and towering castles are filled with vibrant colors and detailed backgrounds that remain visually impressive years after the game's original release. The expressive animation of both protagonists deserves special praise, as much of their emotional connection is conveyed through gestures rather than dialogue. Small interactions, such as hugs, celebrations, and comforting animations, strengthen the bond between the characters and make their relationship feel genuine throughout the adventure. The soundtrack matches the game's relaxed pace with soft orchestral compositions that create a comforting atmosphere without overpowering the gameplay. Each area is accompanied by music that enhances exploration while subtly shifting during more dangerous situations. Combined with polished sound effects and expressive character animations, the audio presentation reinforces the whimsical tone and helps immerse players in the game's charming world. Although the experience is highly enjoyable, its slower pacing may not appeal to everyone. Players looking for intense action, frequent combat, or highly demanding platforming sequences may find the adventure somewhat gentle. Certain puzzles occasionally require experimentation before the intended solution becomes obvious, and there are moments of backtracking when searching for hidden items or the correct path. Fortunately, these minor frustrations are balanced by generous checkpoints, intuitive controls, and consistently fair level design that keeps the experience accessible from beginning to end. What ultimately makes A Boy and His Blob memorable is its ability to create meaningful gameplay through simple mechanics and heartfelt storytelling. It successfully transforms a straightforward concept into an engaging adventure where every puzzle solved reinforces the partnership between the boy and his unusual companion. Its timeless visual style, creative puzzle design, and emotionally driven presentation ensure it remains enjoyable for both newcomers and longtime fans of the original classic. Rather than competing with modern platformers through complexity, it succeeds by embracing creativity, warmth, and imagination, making it one of the genre's most charming family-friendly adventures. Rating: 7/10
