Curator page here--> DaRevieweD #199 <-- New review every Weekend

"LOOP WHAT CHU MADE ME DO!!"
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2876852542 Here's The Thing: You are a something or someone, I am not all too sure… Blame it on the game! Anyway, everyone else has evacuated and you would do well to do the same. There are security bots on the prowl, ready to escort you a place you don’t want to end up in, and they perceive of you as their only threat, giving you their undivided attention~
[+] PROS;
:) BOTSHI* CRAZY~ A long game of hide-and-seek meets traffic light and Happy Death Day but with a pesky countdown that triggers only whenever you are on the move! Getting “tagged” by the Five Nights At Freddy’s security bots or incapacitated through any other means will reset the loop and drain your “integrity bar” by half of an inch. Not a problem, right? Well, your save game could get wiped once it’s fully gone! If you’re thinking it’s simply all Tom and Jerry chase style of thrills, you’d be partially right. Once you’ve been made, those bots will be in a frenzy and their already bloodshot eyes seem to get even redder until you break line of sight! But remember, there’s still a time loop element to it, and so secrets gained from each run/death will turn the tide. Much like Tree Gelbman, you can learn to outsmart it by retaining your progress through waiting, frequenting the item checkpoints or make a dash for the waystations that activate when they’re all privy to your whereabouts! You could even purposefully lose progress to keep that integrity intact for there are loopholes to this cycle. A montage of failures and close calls go by and before it even occurred to me, I unearthed my first ending 4 hours in! And with there still being four or five more to hunt down, that and the blasted mystery behind the time loop remains towering over me. Staring me down as I run around disoriented like a rat pursued by huger clomping rodents. So, all in all there’s like a good 5 hours left but that’s me being a cockeyed optimist. That, and there are literally pieces where I have no clue as to where they’ll fit and objects which are nowhere to be found~ :) THIRSTEEN STEPS? Maybe it’s just the robots on a mayhem working their charms, but I got a very profound feeling of wandering and crossing over into the universe of The Surge. The place isn’t as post-apocalyptic, but the layout of soulless labs, monotonous offices and abandoned PCs by the dozens has my fight-or-flight on the fritz. The robots are kinda like uber creepier iterations of Baymax with their deep crimson, steely eyes and for some reason “a shark on two legs” … I wonder what that makes me then! I simultaneously dug and loathed how there is no filler music, because it would distract and take away from the quality of that human-based research! Every track has a purpose, and they come in stages where there’s first the giant mechanical thudding when a security bot is nearby and your heart is playing a different kind of song as it approaches closer as if it can tell where you are… Then there’s the “vulnerable” state, for when you are seen and much like an engine, it has to warm up before it revs up in intensity. Finally, it gets louder and upbeat the longer you remain in said phase, with the number of paces growing in number and multiple bots are onto you, or so you think until you look over your shoulder~ :) WELL, UP EOS TOO!!! The horror lies in both the predictability as well as unpredictability of getting to and fro cover, building or just the Complex in general. The former in that you figure out how the bots operate soon enough, and yet managed to be tripped up by their relentless patrolling. You can probably count how many security bots there are out there with just one hand, but you’re probably gonna need both to escape intact! The latter refers more to the bizarre combination of SCP-derived “trials” all entangled with one another! And of course, when all else fails, the bots being sicked on you when you least expected it, never ceases to deliver jolts of adrenaline, the taste of iron in your mouth and shooting pains down your left arm… Or rather you would, if you didn’t misplace it in one of the lockers! While I personally think the scenario is unrelatable at this point in time, I do think it can happen especially for companies who go into potentially risky (and unlawful) businesses but with no proper fail-safes in place! Or maybe there were, but having untrained workforce who cannot adhere to them would be like there were none to begin with! I’m looking at you project BLARI! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2876853735
[-] CONS;
:( STEPPING OUT. INDEFINITELY. Yes, I’ve just reached the one ending thus far, but please hear me out! This game is bound to have a story- of that, I am sure. However, suffice to say the manner in which players are fed information is lackluster. I’m no less in-the-dark now, in my let’s see… oh, I don’t know a millionth loop than I was back in my first one. The only thing I’ve gathered story-wise is the incompetency of the personnel to misplace and forget their keycards. Whereas the crux of the story is treated as background noise, limited to a handful “workplace hazard” data logs. It is much too reliant on its interesting mechanics, oblivious to the fact that at some point, even they can let it down and with nothing else to fall back on…! Well, now who’s out of the loop~ :( LOOK AT THAT PAD-OMETER GO…! This boils down to a matter of preference, but the gameplay, again is not suited for everyone. Those without the patience to tolerate the instant-deaths, pursuers that are quite hard to shake off and just the overall rather idiosyncratic time-step system (for no good reason) will be quickly frustrated. Besides, the existence of the “integrity” bar while totally stressful and coerces you to think twice or thrice before taking that next step… Just the thought of having to redo everything, and knowing what I know now, it’s a full-blown nightmare. It’s like re-watching Groundhog Day but with loads more rules and Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe” is really emphasizing on the GOT You bit~
BUGS:
x None? Imagine that…
NITPICKS:
~ Some low railings and objects cannot be vaulted over… ~ Enemies sometimes break their own rule by moving even when the steps/countdown has not been depleted. ~ Misspellings here and there. ~ Time passes quicker in the waiting room. But stand too close to the door, it’ll do so at the normal rate! ~ It is a time loop and all, but keys that have been picked up still spawn.
"IT’S LIKE A.A. BUT WITH AN EXTRA STEP~"
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2876854757 Last Words? Three paces forward, two paces back is how I’d sum it up! Gameplay is out-of-the-box and the learning curve makes you want to step up… But they also cast shadows that swallow the trivial plot whole~
7.5 / 10

Don't forget to follow my curator DaRevieweD for more games!!
If you're a fan of Five Nights, you're gonna LOVE this game! I'm not the biggest fan of horror, but 13 Steps features a super unique gameplay system that gives the player back power and makes it super accessible to everyone! The monsters only move when you do so there's a sense of strategy that surrounds every round you play. It's not just hide and pray in real-time like in other horror games. You know when you've made a mistake and you can take either bite the bullet and wildly commit (often very fun & adrenaline fuelled) or take a step back to rethink your approaches (at the cost of limited time :O). Once the step timer depletes and you start getting desperate/taking risks, that's when the real fun begins. I've only unlocked 2 endings but apparently there's more from what the reviews below me have stated. I think I'll try to find one more and update this review on how I feel about the 3rd replay. And you know what's crazy?! There really are no bugs! The whole game runs smooth as hell and I highly recommend everyone give it a go to experience super a new super polished indie release. P.S - The easter eggs are so cute too so I can tell this developer has a sweet sense of humour :)
Story: Compelling! I'm still in the early stages of the game but I'm keen to see how this mystery unfolds. The different spaces feel about right and I am spooked! Will update this review as I go along.
13 Steps is without a doubt a great indie horror title, full of intrigue and mysteries to uncover. I highly recommend to anyone looking to have a few hours of spooky fun this halloween! I've put a few hours in now, unlocked three of the endings (so far), and I can say I'm thoroughly enjoying my time. It is spooky, intriguing and rewarding all at the same time. The atmosphere and sound design is very immersive, keeping you on edge as you solve the puzzles and explore the eerie EOS buildings. The premise centres around tracking your steps as you attempt to escape a time loop in a remote research facility. But it's not as easy as it sounds, you have to use the data-logs you find along the way to point you in the right direction. Not to mention the multiple shark animatronics that stalk the premises. They will appear when you least expect it, leading to a handful of restarted loops (oops). Obtaining upgrades and useful tools as you explore, such as the shadowstep device (short range teleport), help you to reach difficult sections of the map and hidden lore or access codes. Hidden plushie shark collectables are dotted around the facility, giving you small boons as you find more. Just make sure to walk by an inventory saving machine, because you might lose some if you find yourself in the jaws of their big brothers! Be warned, your first time escaping the time loop might be deceiving... All in all this is a pretty polished little title, I couldn't recommend it more! I'm going to get back to finding all the secrets and alternate endings!
Short and sweet little horror game based around a cool mechanic executed well. The fact that time stops when you're not moving doesn't do much to deter a sense of impending doom as you cautiously lean around the corner, looking for an enemy waiting to catch you unawares. Honestly surprised I've not heard of this game before now, if you're reading this give it a go 👍
Cool indie horror game with what seems like a lot of replay value.. So far I've had fun finding little secrets all over the place and trying to optimise the sections I've been able to figure out. The scares don't get old and the shark-bots still manage to freak me out even when I know they're just around the corner. Gameplay is easy to pick up and with each unsuccessful loop you still feel like you're making progress by learning things to make your next loop more successful. Definitely recommend for fans of horror or people who like non-linear storytelling and digging into mysteries.
Emerging from a pod you awake unaware of your surroundings. Through following a series of breadcrumbs distributed in the form of data logs you'll quickly learn the area well. At the start death feels inevitable when the step meter reaches 0, however after only a couple loops(deaths) you start to survive, thus preserving your integrity bar. I have a lot of playtime and I'm still on the same save after plenty of accidental, experimental (I wonder what would happen if I jumped from here?), and the likely inevitable deaths that come from exploring for the first time. So while the threat of save deletion exists if your integrity bar reaches 0, I wouldn't worry that much about it. I earned my first ending around 4 hours in, which was delayed due to searching many times over for something that didn't exist. In all that searching though I became aware of other elements that are part of different endings. Returning to loop again with that information seemed promising, however another 8-ish hours later I've yet to earn another ending. I'm out of hints, I think I'm missing some secret item, but I've done everything I can think of. Even after coordinating a series of steps that culminates to trigger a major event I was sure a new ending was destined for me. Alas that was not the case, again I received the same ending I got 8 hours of playtime ago. 13 Steps is a fairly scaled game in terms of difficulty if the player takes the time to explore the area and uncover the upgrades that are hidden throughout. Players should find some locations challenging to begin with, but via trial and error make light work of them in the end. One location in particular at the "end" of the game was surprisingly much more challenging than the rest and will truly test your ability. There's quite a bit here to uncover, various threats roam the environment, and pacing for what will likely be your first ending feels good. Gameplay was very smooth with the exception of some minor hiccups that can occur (granted the game only released a few days ago). Overall I would say it surpassed my expectations slightly.
13 Step is a a solid Indie game with a surprisingly good atmosphere that keeps the player constantly looking out for danger. The "Sharkboi" has a genuinely threatening presence and can lead to very tense and terrifying gameplay moments. There are some very minor performance issues and spelling mistakes in the UI, but nothing game breaking to take the player from the experience that the game provides. Overall, fantastic game and hope the very best for the developer/s with this game's future.
It is a beautifully crafted world and you can tell a huge amount of care has been given to every detail. The monsters made me jump so many times I lost count. Definitely worth the price, I have gotten so many hours out of it already and I haven’t found the first ending yet. Looking forward to finding all of the endings and all the collectibles!
Sharkboy and Lavagirl 2 is looking siiick!!!!!
