Excellent and intriguing. Worth playing through to the end.
10mg: Ten Ten-Minute Games!
This 10mg instalment is a challenging adventure RPG dungeon crawler and top-down shooter that likens itself to Dark Souls (if Dark Souls was ten minutes long)! HANDMADE DEATHLABYRINTH issue 0 has an unusual but well-implemented style and makes use of simple pixel art in glorious 160x144 resolution and a limited colour palette to represent the dark, cavernous locations and wizardly foes. This game certainly presents a challenge and even a tad frustrating at times with failure resulting in a return to the beginning, this does, however, make success highly satisfying! A really fun bite-sized ARPG, with a surprisingly rich world and narrative arc considering the minimal (yet stylish) presentation and short-form... form. I can't wait for Issue 1! :)
The controls for this are god awful. Just completely terrible. Clunky and entirely unintuitive. Why can you only aim via moving towards the direction you want to throw? There is only one good fight in the game. But the tactic is just circle enemy while trying to shoot a weakspot. The story is basically a paragraph dragged out to be longer. The "ending" is cliche and overall just kinda bad. A minor bug thing I managed to get stuck in a wall near the start once. Fairly certain it wasn't intended. The Dev did one livestream explaining the mechanics on steam but didn't archive it so you can't even watch it. This came as part of a 10mg game bundle. 3rd one so far and only 1 of them has been enjoyable. The game seems like something you would see on newgrounds not on steam. Just not worth paying for. Save your money for a good game. Once I have played all the 10mg bundle il edit this.
The controls can be a little frustrating, but since the game is meant to be completed in around 10-20 minutes, it's never too difficult (and the death mechanic helps a lot). It looks really great, sounds really great, and despite the sometimes-iffy attack controls, plays really great, too. I definitely want more of it. My biggest complaint is this, though; there's only one ending, and I didn't really get that at first, even though the game tries to convey this. You'll know what I mean when you get there.
This is the first one I gave up on. I'm too stupid to play this.
Seems like this is going to be episodic? Very interesting little game here, atmosphere gave me Shadow of the Collosus vibes, I actually took the gameplay very seriously and was kind of scared that I was bad at the game and I wouldn't be able to finish it. But it's actually a short game. Gg.
HANDMADEDEATHLABYRINTH issue 0 is a fascinating concept and while challenging at times, the story and characters provide intrigue and a strong atmosphere that draws you to keep going. Brilliant for an introduction to a souls style without the price tag or time commitment.
Slimes can't dream
Wow, this game is intense. It requires the player to figure out the path to success, and it's not easy! It is, however, worth the time spent doing so. I'm not sure how Droqen managed to create such a gorgeous game in such a low resolution... seriously! It's so vivid despite the oppressive palette. Quite a memorable experience, really looking forward to issue 1.
