Zoop! – Hunter’s Grimm, developed by Warfare Studios and published by Senpai Industrial Studios, is an unusual offshoot of a traditional RPG Maker formula that blends a dark fantasy premise with a surprisingly meta-driven structure. On the surface, it presents itself as a straightforward role-playing adventure centered on demon hunting and character-driven storytelling, but as it unfolds, it becomes clear that the experience is shaped just as much by its achievement-focused design as by its narrative or mechanics. This dual nature gives the game a distinct identity, though not always a cohesive one. The story follows Nicholas and Sarai Grimm, siblings who travel from place to place eliminating supernatural threats for profit. Their routine is disrupted when a seemingly simple task spirals into a larger conflict, casting them as fugitives and drawing them into a broader conspiracy. The premise has clear potential, with themes of trust, consequence, and survival woven into a dark fantasy setting. However, while the narrative occasionally hints at deeper emotional or thematic elements, it tends to remain surface-level in execution. Dialogue and events move the story forward efficiently, but they rarely linger long enough to build strong emotional impact, leaving the overall experience feeling more functional than immersive. Gameplay adheres closely to the familiar structure of RPG Maker titles. Players explore towns and dungeons, engage in turn-based combat, and progress through a linear series of events. The mechanics are simple and easy to understand, making the game accessible to a wide audience, but they lack the depth needed to sustain long-term engagement. Combat, in particular, becomes repetitive, as encounters rely on a limited set of strategies and offer little variation as the game progresses. While the overall length suggests a more substantial adventure, the lack of mechanical evolution can make the experience feel stretched rather than enriched. What sets Zoop! – Hunter’s Grimm apart is its heavy emphasis on achievements, which are integrated into the game in a way that significantly alters how progression feels. Many achievements can be unlocked with minimal effort, sometimes even passively, creating a system that feels detached from traditional gameplay accomplishments. For some players, this becomes a point of interest, offering an easy way to accumulate achievements without significant challenge. For others, it undermines the sense of progression and reward that is typically central to RPGs, making the experience feel less meaningful overall. Exploration and world design are serviceable but unremarkable. The environments rely heavily on standard RPG Maker assets, resulting in locations that are functional but lacking in visual distinction. Towns, dungeons, and outdoor areas provide enough variety to support the narrative, but they rarely stand out as memorable spaces. The audio design follows a similar pattern, offering adequate support without adding significant atmosphere or personality. The tone of the game is another area where its identity feels somewhat conflicted. While the setting leans toward dark fantasy, the dialogue and character interactions often introduce lighter, more casual elements that can clash with the overall mood. This contrast occasionally adds charm, particularly in the interactions between the protagonists, but it can also make the experience feel uneven, as the game shifts between seriousness and humor without fully committing to either. Despite these shortcomings, Zoop! – Hunter’s Grimm does provide a complete and accessible experience that may appeal to a specific audience. Players who enjoy straightforward RPG Maker titles or are interested in achievement-focused gameplay may find value in its structure. However, for those seeking a deeper or more polished experience, its limitations are difficult to overlook. In the end, Zoop! – Hunter’s Grimm is a niche title that offers a mix of familiar mechanics and unconventional design choices. It delivers a modest adventure with moments of charm, but its lack of cohesion and refinement prevents it from standing out in a meaningful way. Rating: 6/10
100% Achievement Review - The achievements in this game are a bunch of emojis and all of them pop right at the beginning of the game so I have no idea why this game has achievements at all. This is a very basic RPGMaker game. I'm pretty harsh when reviewing them, but this one didn't seem to have anything special going for it, using default tilesets and sounds and menu, using a side battle system that isn't standard but is probably a script they downloaded, and they probably commissioned the pixel art characters and anime character art. The story didn't hold me enough to play more than 15 minutes after getting all the achievements.
