Zenless Zone Zero is a brand-new urban fantasy action RPG lovingly crafted by HoYoverse.
In the game, a disaster known as "Hollows" brought modern civilization to its knees. Hollows appear out of the blue, spawning anomalous dimensions crawling with terrifying monsters called "Ethereals."
In the wake of this catastrophic disaster, the last city to survive the apocalypse — New Eridu — used the technology and resources needed to combat the Hollows, overcame countless dangers, and gradually evolved into humanity's final bastion of civilization.
In New Eridu, you'll step into the role of a Proxy — a professional who provides guidance to those who need to venture into the dangerous Hollows for various reasons. You'll embark on adventures with unique characters, exploring Hollows together, battling powerful enemies, completing commissions, and uncovering the secrets hidden within the city.
Zenless Zone Zero delivers smooth and exhilarating combat. Launch your offense with Basic Attacks and Special Attacks, counter enemy strikes through dodges and blocks, then string together flashy combos with Chain Attacks to finish them off. Different enemies have their own specialties and weaknesses — seizing the right opportunity and responding with precision is key to controlling the battle.
Zenless Zone Zero features a striking art style and visual design that stands out. Characters boast incredibly detailed expressions and fluid, dynamic movement, with combat and plot sequences packed with tension. The music pulses with sharp, distinct rhythms, delivering a powerful and impactful audiovisual experience.
In a world plagued by disaster, a new kind of city has emerged — New Eridu. This last oasis has mastered the technology to coexist with Hollows and is home to a whole host of chaotic, boisterous, dangerous, and very active factions. As the key link between the Hollows and the city, the story of the legendary Proxy Phaethon begins to unfold.
Diverse city blocks each boast their own unique vibe, while danger-filled Hollows conceal deadly challenges. Take on commissions, dive into the action, and freely switch between urban errands and combat. Every journey is a brand-new adventure.
Random Play can't run without videotapes, and a Proxy can't do without Agents. In New Eridu, unexpected visitors always come calling. Fates intertwine as a colorful cast of characters takes the stage one by one, weaving together the sprawling story hidden beneath the city's calm surface.

This game is peak. Peak waifus, even peaker robots, all around peak.
I racked up around 400 hours in this game before the Steam port. The learning journey was hard - I stepped away from the game a few times out of frustration due to a lost 50/50 that was a serious setback for my account, or after a teambuilding mistake that cost me a few weeks of time. This game holds your hand, but if you try and reach for its arm it will show you just how many cards are hidden up its sleeve. This game is deep. Really deep. Very beginner friendly, though, and it'll let you autopilot if that's what you want. Even still, it's easily the deepest gacha I've touched, and I've played every Hoyo game after Impact 3rd and a few others outside of Hoyo. Manipulating the combat to your will is a skill you have to build over and over as you create new teams and figure out how they flow, how they interact with bosses, how all the pieces fit together. It WILL have you confused, frustrated, or otherwise feeling very negative feelings if you're a person like me and want to perform in endgame. (Purely optional, I did this to myself) Is that frustration worth it? You tell me, I think it's different for every person. In my case, yes, it's worth it. I'm not there yet, I still haven't gotten 9 stars in DA, but the satisfaction you'll feel once the hard work pays off and all of a sudden your team and gameplay are flowing like never before is indescribable. Not everyone will feel frustrated, it seems like most of my friends don't have any problems with the game like I did, though I'm F2P. Speaking of, the F2P experience. It's really good. Really good for a gacha in general, but even for Hoyo (Notoriously fair gacha game company after Star Rail's release) Zenless is a very generous and fair game to play. Now, it will take a lot of time invested to perform in endgame modes and especially at the peak, but it's doable. It's just hard and takes some persistence. Getting the right units can feel like a Sisyphean feat, but there's always the next rerun... ..and even if there isn't, there are people who make 4-star-only teams clear endgame content through sheer skill and crazy build optimizations anyone could do if they put the time in. As for performance, it runs swell. I have a good rig so you can take my words with a grain of salt but it never drops below 60 FPS on an SSD and my computer can just about always sustain 144 FPS to match my monitor so long as it's not one of a few problem child bosses with big performance hits taken just for them to exist. Some may ask: "With Zenless being on Steam, does it work on Linux without a third-party launcher like Twintail now?" And the answer is YES. Yes it DOES. The Linux port is flawless, the game works just as well as it ever did on Windows and it seems the devs incorporated their own compatibility layer into the Steam release because it runs WITHOUT ENABLING PROTON. I have been playing this game on my Steam account with the compatibility box unticked this entire time. It works excellently, do not worry at all about Linux support. It seems the dev team was a few steps ahead here and I love it. I would hazard a guess that this is a major reason why they put it on Steam in the first place, but that's just speculation on my part. I want that to be true, and these devs seem like the type where it would be. To round this review off, do I recommend? Absolutely. You can spend a whole zero dollars on this game and get plenty of time out of it. Or you can spend just a little bit and have a much easier time in endgame. Or you can dump your entire salary into it like a weirdo I guess, whatever floats your boat. Regardless of what or how you spend, you will find fun in this game if you're a sucker for hack and slash or just combat depth in general. There's enough here to make you drown several times over. The character writing is awesome, the character designs are really good, and the little touches the devs give them show so much care and passion for the game they're developing. This game will stay healthy for a long time if it can maintain the somewhat fragile combat balance without becoming predatory, and this is the one gacha game where I allow myself some cautious optimism.
Want to kill time? this is a great game to sit back and enjoy a long story, it also has lots of side content to play/do.
the characters have such good lore, the story is AMAZING, and the character visual designs are perfect.
