This is a weird recommend. If I could give it a neutral rating I would. This feels more like a new interpretation of Yakuza 3 than the upgraded remasters we had for Kiwami 1 & 2. There are a lot of quality of life, character customization options, and combat rehaul. There are good, bad, and odd story changes ranging the whole spectrum. Including a pretty major story retcon for a spoiler character. There is drama with how this game released: from voice actors issues to how one of the main characters got Cumberbatch'd. There is nuclear bloom in Okinawa during the day but the morning / evening / nights do look great. Reworked the entire orphanage portion, adding minigames and putting a lot of polish that I would not have expected. It's all fluff but fairly fun to have in the background. Minigames here are welcome, from an extensive game gear line up to a solid arcade and pass time fair. Combat is more fluid then the original "Block-kuza 3", but it still feels like it needed another month or two in the oven. Took out some of the well known things about the original Yakuza 3: the Cabaret club, Mack's phone events, and some of the more spicy substories. Added things from future games like the gang battles and an extended inventory system. More cutscene focus on Kiryu trying to keep his home in Okinawa between the two conflicting parties. Yet added in a new story focusing on Mine and how he got to this point. It's a lot of step forward and step back. I think the point that annoys me the most is that you cannot buy the "Yakuza 3 Remastered" game solo now that this game exists, only by buying the "YAKUZA Complete Series BUNDLE". This isn't a game that replaces the original, more of another interpretation that has its own up and downs. At minimum Yakuza 3 is still worth playing when going through the series, I just worry about the eventual Yakuza Kiwami 4.
