First off, I only played 20 minutes, I think, so it's quite possible that the game gets better after longer play. That being said, I was really looking forward to trying this, but after 10 minutes, I was disappointed enough that I uninstalled it. Then after a while decided I might not have given it enough of a chance, I reinstalled it, played for 10 minutes and got upset enough with it again that I uninstalled it again. I thought this would be funny or Christmassy, but for me is was neither. The music was uninteresting (I know it was going for a metal feel, but why not also include a Christmas feel either with metal versions of a carol or more festive instrumentation?), and the tag lines weren't funny to me and got old after 10 seconds. The starting weapon was boring for me, so I saved to get the next weapon, and when I did, it was boring, too. Most of the upgrades weren't interesting, and all of them had such slow progression, and the meta progression was painfully slow. The enemies didn't look festive, funny, or interesting either in aesthetics or behavior, and what is with the bird that grabs your drops if you don't pick them up fast enough? I wasn't hoping for something great, but I was hoping for something that was kind of fun, but this wasn't fun at all for me. That being said, I liked the concept, and I hope there's a chance to see something like this in the future, but maybe with the Christmas theme more deeply connected to the gameplay.
A fun casual Chrismas shooter for the price point. Progression feels right, and the pacing is tight enough to keep every run intense to the end. It might not win game of the year, but it's a perfect quick game to fire up a few rounds for the holidays! Bonus: the developer is still reading the discussion threads in 2025, with planned updates for December.

surprisingly a lot of fun! like no joke its super fun. save up for the minigun immediately and it gets even more fun. highly recommend for anyone wanting a simple fun wave shooter and a dangerously addicting game.
-------------------------------------------- Game that’s really nice to pass the time. The game is very simple and doesn’t have much content. You’ll basically keep repeating the same map over and over without anything changing. After you unlock all the characters and weapons, you’ll probably only keep playing to get the achievements. Some achievements are a bit annoying because they require playing for a long time, like the one where you have to kill 100,000 enemies. I have 5 hours of gameplay and I’ve probably killed around 20,000 monsters, so you can imagine it will take a while to complete 100% of the game. For a Christmas-themed game, it’s quite fun. In the 5 hours I played, I had fun, and that’s why I’m recommending the game. Anyone who likes the genre and doesn’t mind repeating the same content will probably have fun for at least a couple of hours.
Recommend comes with qualifiers and warnings! First of all, I love xmas. Xmas Apocalypse is a title very appealing to me, and as such it delivers schmup/zombies. Warning #1: This is buggy af. When I was first thinking about writing a review, I was thinking, "I don't like having to alternate between the keys and the xbox controller, but at least once I start the actual game/shooting, it's more or less smooth. 12 hours play time, later, the three cards popped up for me to select, but the cards never revealed, so I was like that, "ok, whatever, this is the first part of the game, and I know how all the cards work, so there's no real ruination even if I pick a card I don't like," Wrong. I never found out what I picked because the three cards, playside down, never cleared off the screen, and they're in the middle of the screen. I tried to pause and return, I alt-tabbed to the desk top, returned, it widnae clear out of the middle of the screen, so, Santa was devoured by zombies. There are several other bugs, which are annoying, but I've been using computers since 1980, and most of them are not game enders. Warning #2: It seems there's basically only one tune. It's a bit metal, and it's defo xmas, but after 10 hours I found I really wanted more metal xmas tunes than just the one. The one is not bad, no at all, but it's not a tune I'd choose to loop for the entire game. I know good music isnae cheap, but it needs more than the one tune. Warning #3: Already mentioned, but I really wish I could choose menu items with my controller. I haven't tried other controllers to see if ti's something with this brand new one I got for xmas, but, again, relying on 45 years of home computer gaming experience, I think it's an issue in the code.
