I started playing XCOM 2 after finishing Wasteland 3. I learned that Wasteland 3’s combat system was heavily inspired by XCOM, so I thought I might enjoy it. Unfortunately, I really didn’t. I found the story too silly, like some B-movie about an alien invasion. Games with bad stories turn me off much more than games with very simple or no story at all. I kept thinking, “Why am I wasting my time with this B-movie?” If you can disregard that and love tactical turn-based combat, this game is probably for you. If you care about a good story or compelling lore, however, XCOM 2 is bad in that regard. Finally, it runs well on Steam Deck, although I did spend some time configuring the controls.
Wow just picking up after a break. The last 4 maps I played I completed the mission but it classed as failed, and didnt do any turn saves Redid the level and moved on. Next map, not even out of conceal and half my team lost half health Restarted started winning map. Random crash The hell is going on with game?!
Not the game for me. Time limited missions constantly to force you to play aggressive / reckless . Snake type aliens that can grab a squad member 20 metres away and immobilize them. Aliens that can teleport at random and create clones of themselves that can attack you, also create a warp field that disarms your squad in a wide area. Random dice that lies about the percentage chance of success. Enjoyed the first xcom despite its flaws, but this feels less like entertainment. More like frustration.

It's kind of fun, but: the game is highly frustrating. There are too many unskippable animations. Yes, I see the enemy turret. No, I don't need to see it scan back and forth for 5 seconds before I can get back control of my troops. Same goes for every single enemy that appears in the game. And same goes for every attack animation and every counter. And the multiple loading screens before/after the mission, one is enough. In the Geosphere the game is frustrating too. Tons of interruptions preventing you from going after the major objective. In the old school XCOM/UFO game you could divide your forces and expand. Here you're stuck handling every tiny issue that happens across the globe. Like I'm expanding the resistance network so I can attack an Alien Base in Siberia, but some patrol got ambushed in South America, so now I have to fly and handle that or I lose all the supplies I get from that region... The entire planet is occupied by the Aliens, people are dying left and right, there's no logic in me interrupting major operations to save a tiny patrol on the other side of the world. It's frustrating. The game missed the mark. If you must try it, get it during the deep discount sales.
An excellent, excellent turn-based strategy game. Highly recommended to anyone who is curious, loved the first Xcom, this one is just as fun, if a bit different. Difficult and unfair at times, sure - but love the scenarios, maps and monsters. I mean, this game may case you to cross your fingers and hold your breath on a 95% chance shot. Also, if I may - don't waste your ammo on psychically reanimated corpses.
