I really enjoy Lovecraftian stuff, and I've been enjoying a lot of city/colony builders recently, so I figured I'd give this one a try. I'm no stranger to playing the 'bad guy' in games either, so I wasn't worried about it getting to dark. What made me not recommend this game was how TEDIOUS it made it all feel. Your workers go 'Praise be to the demon' in the most bored 'I only got 3 hours of sleep, I'm here at my minimum wage not giving a ♥♥♥♥ job' voice you can imagine. And yeah, the person directing the tutorial should be more straightforward, but not ANY gibbering or enthusiasm there either? He sounds like he's trying to teach you accounting, not how to give sacrifices to the Dark Lord. Seriously, like, you are pledging yourself to this, at least have ONE cutscene of you sacrificing someone, have them screaming 'I bequeath my soul to you, oh Tender of Great Abyss' and FLING THEMSELVES off into the abyss. Not just... this 'Oh. I guess it's my turn to get carved up. Joy'. Feeling. Do I have a cult to Droopy Dog??? And the sacrifices... seriously, I know it's a city builder, but the 'sacrificing' to the elder god is basically 'burning tier 1 resources for research points' that's on a TIMER. That you MUST trigger yourself. Oh, you can automate GETTING the reward, but you still have to trigger it EACH AND EVERY TIME. And the carving symbols into my people. Great, fine, not a problem. Except a lot of the symbols are THE SAME THING. Logs, boards, clams, and several others are all versions of circles or semi rounded corner rectangles of SLIGHTLY varying sizes and positions! Not spirals, not zigzags, just... the same thing. And it's on a timer too! And if you mess up, you can't restart, because the line you do, you HAVE to carve, and once it's carved, you can't back out. If you do, it counts the person as 'being already marked' even though it didn't do a damn thing. So you choose, after the second time you screw up the symbol to just CHOOSE the destiny you want, and... that's on a timer that takes TWICE AS LONG TO COOL DOWN. THIS IS NOT A PHONE GAME WITH PAY TO WAIT MICRO TRANSACTIONS. But it sure as hell feels like one. Same with the monsters you summon. What it doesn't show in the trailer is the things you summon? CONSTANTLY ARE LOSING HEALTH. They're on a timer too! So you wait for the timers to go off. Lord Cthulu OBVIOUSLY must be okay with this waiting, because the herald is just flapping over my city, waiting for me to do ONE carving at a time (seriously too, why a ritual for one at a time? Why not do a damn ritual to carve say, X number of people? OR Y of the same symbol?? Why am I that ineffecient?!) and not letting me just chuck wooden statue after wooden statue at him, nope, he obviously wants me to take longer. Well, I don't. I'm done. I am as bored as my cultists sound. I have other games to play. Other cults to run. Other cities to build. And after all the stars have burned out in the sky and humanity has long been forgotten and replaced with something far greater... when the Great Watchers finally open their eyes and cast their gaze upon the inky void... I'm STILL not coming back to this game.

Great game, shows the darkness of the Cthulhu world
Remélem lesz folytatása, amiben a fejlesztők kibővitik a játékot! :D
All for that Cult lyf 10/10 on the sacrificial fires
I greatly enjoy this game! Very much resource management and city-building, which is what I came for and what I got. It's got excellent texture and wonderfully thematic bits, and I have to pace myself so that I don't spend six hours straight on a Saturday and forget dinner. So that ought to tell you how much I like it. I'm the kind of person who likes Dwarf Fortress and Stardew Valley, so take that as you will. The game has some aspects that some might call micro-managing, but I see that as part of the gameplay. How else would a cult leader find success, bringing meat and drink into the favored ones, gathering resources to summon creatures from beyond, who, in their time in this realm, can attack the unbelievers, showing the might of the Great One? The game does take thought. If you summon a weaker creature and send it against a fortified port, of course it's going to die. In the Cthulhu book, Cthulhu got sent back to the deep by a boat ramming into his head. If you're looking for an easy "haha perish die \*spam units\* dieee" power trip, then this won't be for you. And for updates - the game is finished. Not all games need updates. Updates are extra, and it's unreasonable to judge a game based on whether you might get more at some future point. It's out of Early Access. Let the game stand on its own. For me, I like it. The sounds are nice (though I'm no audiophile), the gameplay is excellent and exactly what I want, and the writing, when it occurs, is very fun. I find the game to be very replayable, and, frankly, I just like it.
