Decent-ish strategy game with an eldritch theme. While I can't say it's terribly challenging if you're used to these things, I didn't find myself regretting any of my time with it. Writing is kind of mid though unfortunately, the events are fine but dialogue is frequently slotted into the "MY LIEGE, THEY'RE ATTACKING THE GATES, BUILD YOUR DEFENSES!" type writing that tends to plague the genre a bit. I don't think an eldritch horror game built on tension should be hoovering my dingaling quite so hard, a more sinister conniving tone may have been a better idea.
Have a good day, my sweet boys and girls! Why did I say you 'good day', you might ask me? Well, it’s simply the hour when a certain dark epiphany decided to claw its way out. That’s my high-brow way of describing the compulsive urge to manifest yet another pile of arcane drivel for some unfortunate soul to consume. Well, let's get started without further ado. Video games have become one of those inextricable fixtures of our existence, a digital parasite that’s unlikely to depart from our collective psyche anytime soon. So, the question arises: in what manner do these interactive mediums propagate the eldritch visions of the Gentleman from Providence? Let us endeavour to peer into the abyss and dissect this topic together, shall we? And now, for a brief foray into the gaming world. In May 2025, the Polish studio Crazy Goat Games bestowed upon us a city-building simulator set in a rather grim reality, where Cthulhu and his merry band of Great Old Ones are far from mere myth — they exert a very tangible, and frankly quite unsettling, influence on the world. It should hardly come as a shock to you that cults teeming with devoted followers have sprouted among the human race. And naturally, it is precisely these fanatics whom we are destined to manage. So what's going on here? Beyond the standard architectural drudgery and the tedious management of primordial resources, we are afforded an arsenal of tools specifically designed to fortify and propagate the reach of our cult — ensuring the world bows before the one true God... Do forgive me, I seem to have been slightly carried away. Quite apart from the mundane task of proselytising to our followers, we offer tributes at the altar of our devotion. We perform elaborate rituals, etching sacred lacerations and wounds into the very flesh of our flock—and finally, the piece de resistance: human sacrifice. Through these grisly endeavours, we, as the esteemed shepherd of this Сult, curry 'divine favour', which in turn propels the progress of our delightful little commune. However, my dear fellows, besides merely fortifying the convictions of the devoted, we must also expand the reach of our faith—and I should mention that this is achieved through methods that are... shall we say, decidedly lacking in humanism. We have at our disposal so-called 'volunteers' who surrender their earthly vessels for monstrous transformation. These entities, in turn, become living testaments to the truth of our... Cthulhu. It looks like something like this. Now, let us cast our gaze upon the landscape surrounding us. The domain where our cult flourishes consists of scattered isles, cradled by a void-black sea. The land itself is bathed in a sickly, phosphorescent green glow—the kind of light that suggests not life, but a lingering, radiant decay. Our followers walking through the streets of our dirty city look worse than chewed paper. All these lands shall be ours—ours and ours alone. Upon every isle and every single inch of terra firma, we shall flourish. Having had the distinct privilege of hands-on time with this particular title, I still possess the opportunity to play this game. I can't call it a masterpiece because there are plenty of dark spots. However, I must say: the aesthetic is rather striking, and the gameplay itself is remarkably brisk. P.S. And a quick word to the masterminds behind this endeavour: do be so kind as to consider a Ukrainian localisation. It would be a relatively minor feat for you, but an immense pleasure for us. P.P.S. After all, the gaming industry is nothing short of a bottomless abyss—a wellspring of boundless possibilities and hauntingly brilliant ideas.
Yep
It is fun and the lore is pretty neat
Stay away from this time waster! The devs are not even able to produce a simple tutorial that works and an average person can understand.
BASURA, me encanta lovecraft, pero esto es un citybuilder repugnante
