Very Good
TLDR: Solo Destiny in an Inquisitors hat Engaging hybrid of a few different ideas; the gunplay and combat of destiny, the stamina management and tense challenge (as well as corpse runs) of a souls game, and the risk vs reward dynamic of an extraction shooter. Add in a beautiful, scenic environment reminiscent of The Witcher 3, and the compact but active zones you scour for loot and XP provide consistently engaging gun fights. Of particular note are the enemies that flank you, use cover, and cooperate intelligently. As of .9, the game seems basically feature complete, with a fleshed out base hub and clear storyline. A unique combination of game mechanics built on a solid FPS foundation.
Since Steam only allows yes/no for reviews, I do think this game deserves a yes, but it does have some challenges. Gunplay is fantastic. All the guns are punchy, and the upgrade system adds layers of depth to them all. The game does not hold your hand whatsoever, to it's benefit and detriment. If you enjoy discovering things on your own, that "aha" moment when you discover what that random item you picked up hours ago is used for, you'll enjoy this game a lot. However, it can also feel like you're unsure of where to go or what to do next, or where to use certain key items. My biggest criticism of this game may be a skill issue on my part, but the movement doesn't feel great. The jump and double jump provide tremendous verticality, however you cannot dash mid-air. Perhaps I'm too familiar with DOOM Eternal-style movement, but for such a fast paced, dodge-heavy game, being "trapped" mid air became a serious issue. The level design is beautiful, but there are many things that will catch you on the ground and break your movement, as well. Again, probably a skill issue, but the clunky movement is what has stopped me from playing this game more. Overall, if you're unsure about this game, I would say go for it. For me, it's one or two movement tweaks away from being a truly incredible game. I'm excited to see what updates are made on full release.
So far so good. I will say, I have absolutely dreaded purchasing this game. Reasoning is, I really REALLY don't like the aesthetics. Just personal taste, I think the designs and art are of good quality, I just don't find magic, medieval/old world, and guns to be a thrilling combination. So with that said, it was a very very uphill battle but the game has really won me over through the gameplay and game design choices so far. If you're into the witch/grim dark feel and guns type look, and love the gameplay loop of extraction, rogue lite type games, go ahead and buy it. I think it's genuinely a great game thus far. If you're like me and enjoy more sci-fi or modern day hardcore shooters, you may like it way more than you think potentially. I'd say if you're in that boat with me it's still worth a try. Really looking forward to 1.0 and future projects from the dev! (PLEASE continue honing this style of game but consider a different visual genre for the next one:)
Wicked cool game. It's like modern Doom, Bloodborne, and Tarkov had a devil child. Guns all feel great, progression is good and doesn't choke slam newbies. My biggest gripe, which is small, is the hub area being a tad too vague, mainly the garden. Maybe I'll learn it better with more hours. I'm on Gnosis II and having a great time. Only bug I've encountered was a boss in the city staying agro'd from across town and making the portal exit take longer. Good stuff in a hard pressed industry.
This game seems inspired by Dan Brereton's The Nocturnal's. The characters look like the Gunwitch, but with a neat twist and grittier/darker atmospheric setting. 100% would recommend, the Artstyle and gameplay is perfect.
needs more enemires for each zone waaayyyy tooo low
All about this game is great! Graphics: it's good, except, maybe, thatch roofs on some locations. Gameplay: it is variable, more that I imagined. Builds, weapons, artifacts - you name it! Guns: thicc and feel like proper firearms. Sound is great as well. 9/10, worth to get at full price.
its literally a better vermintide you cant make this ♥♥♥♥ up, 10/10
