Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR

You are better off not using steam VR if you have an Openxr VR system. It just adds an un-needed 3rd app killing FPS and over VR smoothness unless you lower settings. Check out Openxr Tool kit if you want to know more about this.

A piece of garbage. I wish it was integrated in WMR or in SteamVR natively.

Bloat ware. Does nothing but take up processing power. Randomly starts on its own causing your system to tweak out. Should be review bombed.

[u] This review is mainly for this software itself. [/u] I can tolerate many issues just for the [b] Dell Visor [/b] . [i] *The boundaries doesn't always remember. [/i] No problem, always make sure you have light in the room and leave the headset's USB always connected as it almost remembers. (Also turn off Steam's free boundary for accuracy of play area) [i] *The controllers need to be in front of you so the headset can track it properly. [/i] Makes sense. [i] *Most games are meant for Vive and Quest 2 [/i] There IS many WMR ready games, even if they don't, if you see Vive ready it's a likely chance WMR will work anyway. You might have to tweak some things sometimes. [i] *Needs AA batteries. [/i] To me that's more upside then downside. In theory rechargeable AAs are always available in stores so it's future-proofing. But as I said, The main issue I have is this software itself. You're force to use this thing if you want to start or stop VR. On top of that. you have press Left or Right stick button to open STEAM'S menu. The window button only opens Mixed Reality menu. It does have Steam button next to it yes in Mixed Reality menu, recently it's gone which is likely a bug. A very bad one. But that is not why this gets a negative. As you use it longer you will encounter the worst bug. The taskbar on your PC [b] WILL.NOT.WORK [/b] The only way to fix it is to hit [i] CTRL + ALT + Delete [/i] click on [i] Task Manger [/i] and end [i] Mixed Reality Portal [/i] I do not think an average person will know this and shut off their PC completely. I still love the idea that World Scale or inside out tracking it is more a simple setup. Which is great for someone has limited space such as myself and rather not deal with little more of equipment just to play for a few minutes. The hardware is not that bad. I like it. This software as far I can tell the main flaw for WMR not selling well as it is. [spoiler] Well that and it's not sold somewhare like Best Buy but not the point [/spoiler] I wish the best for Microsoft and as of this review's date this is not abandon and I hope they can make improvements in the near future.
