Wild Horse Racing

Very silly arcade horse racer in the style of Excitebike with intentionally clunky (but fun!) rhythm controls. Race to earn coins, maintain hooves, upgrade horseshoes & play a meta arcade. Super cool!

I gave this game a try tonight, and it's quite a unique twist to racing! It took me a bit to catch on to the controls, as you must interchangeably swap between your wasd (or a/d and w/s) along with your arrow keys, in order to actually move your horse. I found it rather a lot to try and look at on the screen, trying to pay attention to the keys I needed to hit and also making sure I'm jumping to not only dodge items on the course, but also jump to try and collect the coins. Maybe I'm just bad at it due to being new, but I would like to see a more relaxed version of the game, where all you need to worry about is jumping and maybe holding D or A in order to run in the direction of the race. I think that's more of what I expected from the racing, but I can definitely say my fingers were tired after just playing for 45 minutes. My eyes were a bit tired too, as I can only seem to focus on the very bottom of the screen where the needed button press controls are because they'll switch on you and if you miss even a few your horse comes to a dead halt and the other racers catch up and pass you, and because of that I end up missing the nice artwork of the game itself and the items I need to try and jump to catch. I'm also not sure if the horse shoes I buy in the shop are only supposed to last for a single race, or if better quality shoes last longer? I will need to play more perhaps to explore this. I also expected the shoes to be on all four hooves, not just one. It seems a little odd to only shoe one foot of the horse as you wouldn't do this irl. Not sure what the design idea was behind that. Either way, still a fun little game! Give it a try and get that finger workout! Also the music is excellent and catchy. The levels look very nicely drawn which is why it's such a shame I'm stuck trying to focus on my necessary control presses to race the horse. Perhaps the dev has more planned, or perhaps not. Regardless, still a charming little game that makes you want to race better. :)
