Who Are You?

Who Are You? is a low key asset flip, a bunch of other people's assets assembled badly to make a basic game, typically this kind of thing is done by amateur developers without sufficient budget, talent and/or staff to do the job of game development professionally. It's then quickly rushed into Steam Direct. And, unsurprisingly, this never results in a product with any quality, interest, or value for gamers. This is a really badly done attempt to make an "art experience" walking sim/adventure game about suicide, because you know the developer of this is as qualified to discuss such topics as they are to make video games... not at all. Trying to address serious issues such as mental and emotional health through the medium of video games is misguided and can be harmful. While it's plausible to suggest the intention was noble, this can do more harm than good. The "developer" here is not a professional in areas of mental health and social problems, and when they use video games to pretend they are, this is not only utterly ineffective, it can be harmful. It's my opinion that it's improper to use video games to address mental health issues. Apart from the harm such hamfisted attempts at addressing social problems can cause, this offers zero benefit to PC gamers. People suffering from health issues or other social problems should seek out professional help rather than going to crap shovelware video games attempting to get attention/fame by exploiting such problems for their own benefit, as is the case here. So, the game might look better than you'd expect from an amateur project, but this is because it's partially or completely made up of stock assets, "borrowed" from asset stores and free asset websites. Very little in this game is truly the creation of the "developer", it's just a bunch of rearranged assets. While there's no up front price for this asset flip, the other problem with asset flips is that when developers aren't capable of doing their job and creating high quality assets, it's also true they can't do any of the rest of the job of a game developer either. That's definitely true for "Who Are You?". You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.

It's an okay game, it feels personal just a walking simulator

to be perfectly clear the game is not made very well, nor is the story line anything to praise too much, but it does pose a good question, and to be fair, the question it poses made me put this as one of my favourite story games I've played, not because of the story or the game play, but because of the question at the end, the game isn't too fun to play but if you do have the 20 odd minutes it takes to complete, play it through the end. its pretty good for a free game.

I have not finished the game as I am stuck in a particular part, and have to keep trying to redo it, and it's frustrating enough that I just needed to take a break rather than getting annoyed and further angry. I am not giving up though. While the graphics are similar to other new 3D games, unlike the others, getting control of the camera isn't as difficult as it's been in the other games. Hence why I am not giving up yet and uninstalling it. If you are used to this type of view style, then it shouldn't be a problem for you. I'm used to more old-style stationary camera style that moves with the character as you move left, right, up, down, etc., and not the user needing to use the mouse to try and control it. Games like this usually tend to aggravate me because of the requirement for precise precision movements which mouse using isn't really built for as it makes free-style camera movement way too sensitive, but again, it's not so bad in this game. This is why I'm suggesting that it's still worth a try if you like mystery games. I am quite curious to reach the end of the game to find out what happened in this world and to the main character.
