TBH used to be pretty cool in early access, with a quite magical atmosphere, but it quickly became a tedious slop with many issues, among which my disfavor: 45-60 min giga-boring random encounter fights even with a medium-sized party, an absurd amount of bugs and useless DLCs, and dungeons that are some of the most atrocious and annoying experiences ever seen in decades of RPGs.
Buy it on discount. Despite the new content and DLC's, it didn't really fix the map and environment interactions or the very feel as a mercenary warband roaming around. Some choices felt a bit unclear and sometimes counter productive like on one time you try to barge in and then you have to do the opposite for some reason. Combat is ok but you could get outnumbered.
No DLCs. Plus, they're really expensive.
DLC slop... This game has a great potential, all ruined by DLCs.
Really enjoying my time in Wartales so far. Feel like I've barely scratched the surface in terms of content but will more than likely grab the DLC as well. Turn based combat games can feel hit and miss but this one hits. I personally really enjoy the way they've done it, and the exploration. Managing & customising the troops is fun as well.
great game. DLC's are cool. 8 DLC's in 3 years isnt bad. You dont have to buy them or you know what? wait for them to go on sale and buy one here and there. it goes on sale quite a bit. Most negative reviews are "oh to many DLC's" well i bet if they only had one or two you same people would be crying there isnt enough content, its not finished, ect. so you like turned based games? this is the game to get. base game is great for what it is.
Over 50% of the game is DLC. fun with friends for sure, but annoying to be reminded every 5 minutes that we dont have access to half the content of the game. Guess ill just whip out my credit card to get the full experience. ONLY BUY ON SALE. IF YOU BUY THIS GAME FOR 30-40 BUCKS YOU WILL REGRET IT.
The base game is outstanding: a medieval X COM with crafting, fishing, side quests and more, but they have a very aggressive DLC policy ( see Paradox), so.. I would very much recommend the base game, as for the dlcs (I have all of them), they add some value, but I'd wait for a sale (and even then, some just feel money grabbing)
