The most fun I've had with a CRPG in ages. Dark, funny, violent, well written, full of depth, tactical opportunities, fun builds, wonderful characers and companions, endlessly replayable... and it's a WH40K game to boot. Difficult to love the grimdark future of the Imperium more.
buy it
I bought this because I believed in Owlcat, let's get that out of the gate. I find 40k convoluted, overly fantastical for a sci-fi, but unique and complex enough to follow the natural cycle of "what might be". Their entries into the cost of FTL travel, for instance, is highly unique. There's a lot of cost to all of their elements, from cybernetics to "powers". In the 90 hours I've played the only "Trading" I've really done is in dealing death, and selling loot to random vendors. I feel like this is a confusing title if you're expecting a game about being a Trader. Rogue Traders are like weird Lords of a sector of the galaxy. Like imagine England in the 1880s, if you were a lord of whatever-the-hell-shire, and you were given power and influence over the randos of that area. A couple villages, and their yields. That's the closest comparison that makes any sense... but your manor is that ship, and that "castle" is like a thousands year old cathedral filled with hundreds of thousands of people. I dunno, it's fricken weird. I found the characters much like if Owlcat was given free reign to make some fan favourite classes into characters. They're all very unique and full of charm. Sometimes they're a little 2-dimentional, but over all they have a lot of things they hope to achieve in the game. The combat is where the game really shines. I very much liked that they did away with the old RTS with a turn-based, square system. Sure, some battles take 20-40 minutes, but they did in BG3 as well and I didn't whine there either. All in all, I would recommend this game if you love 40k, or if you find it interesting. Or even if, like me, you love Owlcat games and trust them to make gold out of a lumpy old turd... I can't believe Owlcat made me like a 40k game...
10/10
Warhammer 40k Rouge trader is one of the best Warhammer 40k games i ever played, i enjoyed playing it so much. it a long game, but it is worth it. this game make you feel how to live as rouge trader in the 40k universe. even with 202 hours of play i still did not experience everything this game can offer. i might to another playthough when dlc 4 releases.
The game soft locked and glitched itself multiple times in the tutorial. Everything else was also not really good. The tutorial is bloated with useless informations while at the same time not giving me what I look for when playing a CRPG. The big descision is if I wamt to walk through a litle laughable fire or not. The choice has no consequence whatsoever. Exept that it soft locked me 3 times, if I chose not go back. Fallout 2's tutorial is infamous but I'd rather play it 10 times on repeat than having to play this abomination one more time. Atleast it had different ways to solve it. This on the other hand was as enjoyable as CBT. This hour long linear level with a bossbattle, made by someone who somehow missed the last 30 years of lections in game design, took away every desire to continue playing this game. I would refund this game, but saidly I had it running for over 5 hours trying to get past the glitches and soft locks. Get the original Fallout games or Divinity if you want something more modern.
Idk why people like warhammer, everyone is ugly and corrupt and crazy. The rpg mechanics seem a lot more convoluted than Pathfinder. I don't care for it.
