Hi there o7 I don't want to discourage you or anything, that is why I will click the recommended button. BUT, the double jump works at random, I got stuck a lot and rage quit. LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE! o7
The art style is really nice and the way the hints are provided in a natural way is awesome and helpful. Overall, this is a beautiful game with charming lore!

"Wandering Petal" is a very mediocre 2D retro pixel platformer/adventure game slapped together with the godawful GameMaker Studio (which, interestingly, has never been used to create a truly successful game, but wow, has it been responsible for a lot of garbage here in the shovelware section of Steam). Explore 2D retro pixel blob backgrounds as a 2D retro pixel blob and wonder why some parts of the gaming industry think they're stuck in 1987. This features really godawful, lazy pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

Really neat. I hope GellyBam continues to expand on it. There could be a lot of interesting lore. It is like 15 min give it a shot.

I want to preface this by saying this game is not poorly made. The artwork is great and has a pleasant art style, the sound effects they chose to use are perfect, The visual effects on the vines are really cool, There are no issues where the floor stops working and it all comes together in a nice little package that could be the blueprint for a much longer game. Playing as a nymph and gathering different flowers to unlock abilities is a really cool idea. That being said, there are problems. The first thing I would suggest is increasing the general volume of the background music. I thought this game was silent until I turned my laptop's sound up to max. Secondly, and much more complicated, There is a recurring problem where the player character gets caught on walls they're trying to jump onto. Also, a couple of times, the jump action just fully stopped responding, but falling to another platforming fixed that. The third thing I want to mention is that There is no death condition or out of bounds. when I was in the cloud area, I fully jumped off the left side and just kept falling. I guess it makes sense since there are no enemies in this game yet, but having some kind of invisible barrier to trigger a restart or back-to-checkpoint would be useful. (after figuring out I needed to go back to the inhabitant asking for mushrooms and going to the underground, I see the problem isn't a general lack of death barriers, just a lack in the left area of the clouds.) I could probably go on about this glitch and that issue and make suggestions for both, but it really just comes down to the fact that this game is clearly in early development. We have a solid foundation here and It has a ways to go, but I'm interested to see how it progresses.
