Its a pretty fun fire emblem type turn based strategy game. For a free game its very good I have been enjoying playing it but the controls are pretty awful. It should be a game playable with only mouse but the mouse controls only work for some things and others are only keyboard. Its very confusing and there is no reference for the controls. It is relatively challenging to me though and I look forward to beating it.
It's a great game for people who are fans of strategy RPGs. The story is compelling, and the characters are interesting. I also like how once you die YOU DIE. However the game keeps crashing on me for unknown reason. If this product wasn't free I would not recommend this. You get what you pay for, but I have purchased the sequel. Hoping it doesn't crash on me.

I enjoyed the game quite a bit with the characters but couple of bugs kinda made me lose motivation to play it for now.
I wanted to like the game, I like Fire Emblem. However the controls (or lack of) are horrible. The game is 320x240? Can't be resized and full-screen just really isn't a good option. No playable way on the steam deck unless you like using trackpads. Even on "story" just to check out how the game was I found it too hard later in chapter 8/9. Really no reason for it, also having lots of dialogue before a fight with no save is tiresome. EDIT : You can save on any turn BEFORE any of your team moves, this was not very clear as I missed it and found out later via the community forums. The "difficulty" is mixed either too hard or too easy at times. It's free so you can see for yourself.
This game is a short, 10 chapter, heavily fire-emblem inspired strategy RPG game. I played it on Linux, and with Proton it worked well (although with more units or some graphical options turned on had very low frame rates). I quite liked this one, in particular for a free game. I played on the hardest difficulty, which was challenging enough that I had a few perma deaths. It was very well done how the game actually takes this into account (for example, certain unlocks only happen IF perma deaths happen, as well as changes to the narrative). I will say that Chapter 8 had two character deaths that were nearly impossible to prevent. Even though their deaths were narratively satisfying, it did not feel good from a gameplay perspective. The narrative as a whole is simple but good. The writing could use some improvement, the characters did not really feel like separate entities but all had the same 'voice'. Be warned that the mood in this game is very down and melancholic--- there is no comic relief and most characters are broken people in some way (which may be up or down your alley). The game feel is very chill --- with downbeat and relaxing sound tracks which sometimes feels at odds with the gameplay. Perhaps because I was playing on Linux there were very few sound effects (like sword or arrow sounds etc.), which was a bit odd feeling.
A solid free game. There is however, LOOOOOOOT of things this game could have been improved, starting with controllers, visual feedback when clicking on things, Inventory management, characters that already had their turn and much much more. I know this game is based on Fire emblem series, so why not adapt basic stuff from games that were made two decades ago? Second game did not improve anything either.
Walk with the Living is one of dozens of low effort retro-pixel SRPG Studio asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the SRPG Studio video game construction kit. SRPG Studio, if you don't know, is like RPG Maker from Temu. That's a bad analogy, however, because RPG Maker is already so bad even Temu wouldn't touch it. And yet, somehow, someone made a JRPG construction kit that's even WORSE. Like all SRPG Studio "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from SRPG Studio coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. Once more and with a surprise to nobody, this SRPG Studio asset flip is a cringe inducing fan-fiction about the developers favourite subject, his imaginary boyfriend, with all the usual high school anime club fan-fiction dropout writing, writing so bad and so cringey it will make you nauseous, and zero value whatsoever compared to real games that weren't churned out of a construction kit. There's a quest or something but the writing is so bad you'll puke before you get through the introduction. As with all SRPG Studio games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of SRPG Studio is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most SRPG Studio shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. SRPG Studio is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 5 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
The speed of valuable gameplay information barraging players is only exceeded by the tedious nature of double clicking various tiles and drop-down menus for every action. With no guides available it requires direct contact with the creator on the forum to discover basics like moving and attack in combat. I cannot imagine the rest of the game gets any stronger past this point
Walk with the Living
