Viveport Video

The new 6DOFlite mode in the latest update is a potential game changer. It allows for head and even body movement within the video which makes for a more comfortable and realistic viewing experience. But... there's still some work to be done. Note for the Devs: While I certainly felt a new freedom in being able to move my head and seeing the environment adjust properly, in some videos I would see a dramatic shift (mostly in background elements) even though I had only walked a step or two, which ruined immersion for me. It did not feel realistic. Focus your algorithms on providing a better understanding of depth of space and objects within the scene. Distinction between foreground, middle ground and background components is something that is crucial for immersion. But kudos for introducing 6DOF video viewing, and I look forward to seeing it develop! You guys are certainly taking the lead here and pushing VR video forward.

I used this for lack of a better free option, but I would not recommend this. PROS: -Technically, the local video player works -Supports SDS and OU, 180, 360, and "curved display" (for flat videos) CONS: -Loads into a junk subscription model that you have to close and load a second app to watch local videos -Will randomly crash while switching to local video player....meaning you have to reload the subscription player again and go through the process again.... (why can't I just load the local player directly???) -Can't control video playback with controllers (need to use onscreen slider which covers up the video) -Can't immediately hide the onscreen controls (you have to just wait awhile) -Can't move video orientation with viewer

Free and works fine for VR JAV, what more could you want? Contrary to what some of these baka reviews say, both signing up and paying for the subscription are optional, you can just select the "later" button. It would be nice, however, if there was a "never" button. The paid subscription is for what appears to be the VR equivalent of network television, so I'm not sure how many people actually want to watch that, much less pay for it. Watching local videos, however, (which is accessible from the main menu) works fine, and There's a built in file browser so you can access your filesystem from within the program, as well as some controls including a way to switch between flat/180 degree/360 degrees, depending on what kind of video you're playing. This program is perfectly usable with one hand. There's a pretty unobtrusive environment that you can toggle off to make the background black, and some ambient music that you can turn off. Unfortunately some obscure video formats don't seem to be supported, but most of the common ones work. A relatively simple utility but works great for my purposes.
