Love the game and enjoy exploring it and solving puzzles. Sadly the game crashes when I start it and have to restart it a couple of times in order to play.

Update: Saw server outages mentioned in another review, yep. Had one at 5:30 AM this morning, thought maybe it was server maintenance related, experiencing one again at 7:50 PM again today (6/13/2026). Yet another great reason to not have microtransactions that require a server connection to verify purchases, if you are not going to adequately maintain those servers for gameplay... 1. [b]Microtransactions, ew.[/b] You might say "but this is a free game!" Sure. But I've played the original VV series, once you've finished the game you've finished the game. And it's not that long or difficult of a game, either. It's honestly a waste of money to spend money on microtransactions in this game. I would rather just buy the game and not have microtransactions. There is no replayability here. Also, judging by the discussions tab, the new player package is even bugged. It doesn't give you the villagers it promises. 2. [b]I recommend looking up the crafting recipes.[/b] I was going to play it fair, until I realized vines respawn anywhere from 5 mins, 15 mins, 5 hrs, or 8 hrs, and it seems to err on the side of the longer times. The squirrel berries and seeds are also a long respawn time. I'm sure this is to encourage you to buy the lemur package that gathers resources for you for $10. I'm sure that particularly as the game goes on, any wasted resources will be particularly punishing (seems like it's going to be a lot of chaining crafted stuff together). So it's best to avoid doing it from the start. 3. [b]Yeah we still got bugs.[/b] If your game crashes, I recommend going to your steam library, right click the game name, go to properties, install, and browse local files. Under the Virtual Villagers Origins 2_Data folder is the output_log.txt that I [i]believe[/i] should log issues, and you should send it into support. Do not open the game again until you've either made a copy of this file and/or sent it into support. For some reason they made their log overwrite itself, instead of create individually separate logs, so when my incident happened I lost my log because I figured I would let the game run in the background while I tried to find the crash log. What happened (for anyone curious) was: I went to upgrade my construction tech and my game got stuck perpetually loading, I alt+F4'd and when I opened back up the game it seemed I had lost a lot of time/progress, was down 2,000 tech points and my villagers had lost a decent amount of skill progress. I also lost crafting materials I had gathered. It was pretty much a rollback, sigh. Weirdly my crafted item was still done, so I was able to trade with the trade ship again, but I couldn't upgrade my construction for a bit because of the missing 2,000 tech points. I'm still going to continue playing it because I enjoy the virtual villager series and want to support the devs, but I really do hope they do a better job in the future. There is a lot of potential. I would love to recommend this game to my friends, but with it being so rough and the microtransactions putting a damper on things, I don't feel that I can.

Игра Virtual Villagers Origins 2 – это увлекательный симулятор жизни на тропическом острове. Начинаешь с малого, буквально с нескольких поселенцев, и помогаешь им выживать и развиваться. Мне понравилось наблюдать, как они учатся собирать еду, строить дома, изучать технологии и даже заводить семьи. Очень затягивает элемент менеджмента ресурсов и распределения задач. Нужно постоянно следить за тем, чтобы у жителей было достаточно еды, воды и крыши над головой, а также обучать их различным профессиям. Визуально игра выглядит приятно, пейзажи острова радуют глаз. Музыка и звуковое сопровождение создают расслабляющую атмосферу. Иногда бывает сложно понять, как лучше всего развивать свою деревню, и приходится экспериментировать. Но это только добавляет азарта. Из минусов, пожалуй, можно отметить некоторую однообразность геймплея на поздних этапах. В целом, я рекомендую Virtual Villagers Origins 2 всем любителям симуляторов и стратегий. Это отличная игра, чтобы скоротать время и почувствовать себя настоящим вождем племени!
