Absolutely insane how they've tried to "fix" the massive gaping hole in their study by requiring 360 degrees. Most apps that say this don't actually need it (eg: can rotate with something like Driver4VR or WalkinVR) but I gave this one a chance anyway. You'd think a study on the effectiveness of various control types for Vive AND OCULUS RIFT would understand that the Rift at purchase is a 180 degree front-facing setup by default and *maybe* include some form of rotation no? How am I going to draw a map that you put behind me? Put the text there instead! That's literally the only part of your study that is "360 degree" ! I swear you're going to taint all your study results in a way that makes them useless if you don't adjust your study for 50%* OF THE VR MARKET. *Okay sure, probably plenty of people on Steam VR have a roomscale setup with extra sensors, but don't make that assumption. Anyway, I seem to be one of the few people who can pretty much do zero-gravity barrel rolls and backflips in VR (Echo Arena / Lone Echo) and not get sick, but because I can't draw the stupid map they'll probably assume I didn't understand the task or can't process the information using thumbstick locomotion (which yes, is absolutely the best form of locomotion, as well as smooth or at least snap turning on the other hand). I bet plenty of people who get sick in VR will generate the expected outcome of "Yep this makes them hurl" simply because there is no feeling of being in the space, the textures are duller than I'd expect from a Second Life location in the early 2000's. This is a great idea with absolutely terrible execution, and I hope that the developer(s) of the study come back to give it a proper try again in future. Edit: Also yes, I know this is a students' project, but that just means it's even more important to get it right, once it enters into academia and passes peer-review it becomes "actual research" that affects the decisions everyone else makes in their own studies and projects, and eventually that leaks out into the commercial industry and news articles.

Virtual Reality Experiment Framework is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this software. This software application is, well, as it says on the box, a framework for academic research and not a real game. You just look around some Unity Asset flipped environments (oops, did we just take someone else's work and put our own name on it? You know what academic institutes do to people who steal the work of others and plagiarize???) and then answer some questions. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop. There's no loop here, no true interactive feedback. It simply is not a game, it cannot be "played". This has misleadingly been launched in the "Games" section of Steam instead of the "Software" section. This is a common mistake for developers who are new to Steam, or don't understand the difference between games and software which isn't a game. It seems this software published incorrectly as a game is simply lack of experience/knowledge of the correct process. Publishing things which aren't games on Steam in the Games section as games is misleading to gamers and somewhat harmful, because it pollutes the Steam marketplace and takes away visibility and market exposure for genuine game developers who do the right thing and make games for gamers. There are no gameplay loops in this software, no "gameplay", no meaningful game like interaction. It's a software application and as such has no merits as a video game for gamers. Because of this, I cannot recommend this non-game software as a game to gamers.

Well, I know how experiments can be boring for academic researches, but for experiment, the software should be actually do what it supposed to do. It was almost impossible to finish tutorial because I couldn't reach the right spot. Pointer was completly broken, and I could never point at. During the experiment the teleporter was almost always broken. I could teleport only 40% times correctly as I expected. Otherwise, I couldn't point at any position at all. Also it was impossible to perform the moving action, since it had 50% chance to ignore my action. Handling those errors I spent most of the time. I found my tasks but I couldn't reach the spot at all. I spend few minites to arrive there, and I eventually failed. If the experiment is about anything else than how users will be annoyed with broken software, it should work much better. Also letters are sometimes very difficult to read in HTC VIVE, so it should be bigger, and moving with touchpad at the end is very hidden. Drawing with pen should be easier, for instance, pen should not move through the white board. It is indeed interesting approach, and I like new tries, but this is simply too broken to get any meaningful dataset in my opinion, since I spent most of time to find out if this is intended or just broken, and if this is intended, what would be the limitation, until my mind became very clear and started to believe this is nothing but huge pile of bugs.
