VEGAS Movie Studio 14 Steam Edition

This edition is a demo for the Platinum or Pro version: - You can't manage the workspace. - No full screen preview on second monitor. - No options for the RAM usage - No options to select the GPU (OpenCL) - I didn't find options for the sound card or being able to make a 5.1/7.1 sound track. Good for family videos or "top 10 twitch fail of the week". But nothing serious for work here.

I previously had Movie Studio 10. When I got this version and opened it to find that they removed many features, I was shocked. There is no longer a video trimmer in which you can trim videos before putting them in your timeline, and the only thing under the "View" tab is "Reset to default". I tried using it anyways because 10 would not accept 4K videos. This version does, but it has limited export options and many of them are under 720p. There is only one that reaches near 4K. Clearly, this product line no longer qualifies as a professional movie editor. If you want something decent, look elsewhere.

For the price, it's a really powerful piece of editing software. Not much of a difference between Vegas 13 and 14, except for the GUI. I do like 14's GUI far better than 13's attempt at touch interface.

This is a good product if your buying it during the special promotion and if you are coming from Windows Movie Maker. It has stuff like pan and crop and a couple of thing from Sony Vegas Pro. If your not buying this during the special promotion, buy platinum version, its only 10 dollars more and has more features. One downside to this is that you can't render videos at 1080p 60fps. You can however, render video's at 720p 60fps. Overall, if your making some basic youtube poops or your coming from Movie Maker, I would recommend it.

I kinda like this edition it is easy to use and follows you on your steam-library years to come. I have been using Vegas for good 10years now and I usualy only edit some gameplay or hunting videos so this edition have enough features to make simple videos on youtube. 9/10 light editor for light and easy video editing.

I always thought that Movie Studio would be garbage compared to Vegas Pro which i have been borrowing for over 10 years. Boy am i wrong! It is almost identical. The workflow, core features, video effects, transitions and media generators are all there. You can edit from 360p up to 4k. It's just perfect BUT.... the only very annoying downside of Movie Studio appears when it comes to rendering your project. There is NO custom frame rate settings so you will have to use a default profile. MP4 format: 29.970 NTSC (progressive) Blu-ray format: 23.976 IVTC Film (progressive) 50i PAL 60i NTSC WMV format: 23.976 IVTC Film (progressive) 25p PAL (progressive) 29.970 NTSC (progressive) Meaning no 25p, 50p or 60p for MP4 content creation. If you are working with PAL content you are basically screwed since you are forced to render in WMV format. For NTSC people you will only be missing out on 60p which is also disappointing. If you are a content creator make sure your camera supports NTSC formats. We PAL users need progressive not interlaced for our digital content creation. I just don't get why they would not atleast add 25p support for MP4. I feel sad for all our PAL users. Rendering on Movie Studio 14 seems a bit slower than Vegas Pro but the final render is just as good. There is also no hardware acceleration available (GPU rendering). Other than that, Movie Studio 14 is actually very good and is basically the same as Vegas Pro.

After using this product for nearly 300 hours, I was initially extremely satisfied with this watered down version of Sony Vegas that costs a fraction of the price, however after spending weeks perfecting a video, I am highly disappointed with this software and will not be using it anymore. Why you ask? Because randomly the program no longer works on my computer, all of my work was lost, and none of the fixes seem to work. Bite the bullet and buy Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas. I spent $140 at a computer shop asking a local tech to fix my PC because I thought it was an internal PC issue, turns out its just the software. Sony Vegas works great for me now with no complaints compared to """""VEGAS""""" Movie Studio. There's a reason it is on sale for $9.99..... BEWARE.
