oh great heavens this game is definitely… something. malik is truly the most insufferable protag i have ever had the displeasure of playing. the writing is so cringeworthy it’s downright comical, i couldn’t even sit through a full hour of it. the one saving grace is the art. update: i played like another hour thinking that maybe the other playable characters weren’t gonna be as bad as malik bc he really killed it for me. yeaaa they aren’t malik level bad but they aren’t good either.
Exciting news coming soon presumably in the next twenty years
Nothing interesting here. Narration is meh, weird ♥♥♥♥ happen sometimes, like two guys b*tching eachother for 15mn suddently kissing for no reason. I mean, I don't want a story grounded in reality, ok, but please... The arts are good, but the game forces you to go through every single dating option to unlock the next one, and even tho your characters seem interesting (well, LOOK interesting at least, cuz as soon as they open their mouths I want to run away) ,I don't want to go through ALL of them to get the bits I'm interested in. I clearly don't recommend...
It's been 3 years and thid game first episode is not even finished properly. And I don't think any other episode will come out. A shame.
I’ll just get to the point: I do not recommend purchasing this game until all of the major bugs are fixed and the general mechanics of the game are optimized. While I appreciate a lot of the beautiful artwork as well as most of the characters’ arcs, I found playing the game to be extremely tedious. Let’s start with the bugs. I do not mind small bugs that don’t interfere with the gameplay much ( e.g. sprites missing, text boxes not being where they should be, repeated lines, jumbled text, etc., all of which are bugs that I’ve encountered). However, I do mind major bugs, such as being stuck on a gray screen, unable to proceed through the game at all. This happened to me, and as I was moving my save files, deleting my steam cloud data, and trying to figure out which save file was corrupted, it occurred to me that I was having to do a LOT of work to fix a game that I paid money for. If the game costs money, shouldn’t it be…ready to play? Am I asking for too much here? Anyway, the frozen gray screen thing doesn’t seem to be a common issue, but one that might be a bit more common are CGs not appearing in the CG gallery, even when the CG has already popped up in the game. I spent way too much time chasing down these elusive CGs because I genuinely thought there must’ve been some diverging path that I missed somehow. But, lo and behold, it was a waste of time because I didn’t actually miss the CGs. (Word of advice: if you already have the game, you might need to use the wishing function to get a few of those CGs because that’s how I managed it.) Bugs aside, the mechanics of the game are lacking. The game really relies on replaying routes (which is not a bad thing), especially because there are times when you’re really likely to get a bad ending first. Despite replaying routes to get multiple endings being such a key part of the gaming experience, the actual process of replaying is time-consuming and frustrating. There is no real skip/fast-forward button, so the only options to skip text you’ve already seen are to either 1. put your text speed on 100% and hit autoplay (which is still annoyingly slow) or 2. use the “Skip to good/bad ending” function (which can be convenient after you’ve finished the game but otherwise defeats the point of trying to find the endings yourself). And, after every ending, you are thrown back to the second character selection menu, where you cannot access the menu or save files until you progress to the next screen. This wouldn’t normally be a problem, but sometimes the loading screens can be up to 30-40 seconds long. So, sometimes I’d finish an ending, have to select another character to date, sit through 30-40 seconds of loading, and THEN access my save files, load one of them up, and then wait ANOTHER 30-40 seconds. Just to rinse and repeat after I get another ending. It’s not exactly convenient, to say the least. Now, in terms of the story, characters, and art, I adore all of that (to varying degrees). It sucks that all of it gets overshadowed by the harrowing gameplay experience, but hopefully that’ll change as bugs are fixed and other game functions are added. Like I mentioned earlier in the review, though, I like MOST, not all, of the playable character’s arcs. There is only one route wherein the writing feels genuinely solid, and most of the other routes have writing that is… okay. Honestly, it can be heavy-handed at times, unclear at other times, and there’s one route in particular where the writing is messy enough to affect the character’s arc. In that route, the very sudden revelations and subsequent growth the character goes through feel forced, and it was only when playing the bad endings of the route that I could grasp what was really going on. That being said, there is a lot of potential for this game. I imagine that there’s something for every 20-something year old to relate to in this game, whether it’s struggling to build a career as a creative, the process of raising kids, the confrontation of the reality that your life isn’t where you thought it would be, or, of course, love troubles. With that in mind, I think it’s important to note that the game is very much focused on each playable character’s growth. It is not a typical romance visual novel wherein you pick a character to romance and choose the dialogue options that would appeal to them. You may already know this, but the game progresses in a linear fashion, wherein you date one person to unlock the next person to date and so on until you eventually unlock the ending. If you’re looking for meaningful progression of the romantic dynamic between two specific characters, you will likely be disappointed. But, if you know what you’re getting into, then I think it can still be enjoyable and perhaps even refreshing to play. Each date, you get to see how the pair interacts with each other, and some of the character dynamics have genuinely surprised me. Some characters clash while others have a type of chemistry that I did not see coming. Whether the date ends in heartbreak, friendship, romance, and/or sex, no two dynamics are quite the same. I hope that, as the game gets cleaned up over time, I can fully appreciate all of the good qualities it has to offer. TLDR; The story and art are great, the quality of the writing varies but is generally alright, but the bugs and game mechanics are not up to par. If I had known, I would’ve waited at least a few more months to buy the game, and I’d recommend you do the same. Or, buy the game now while it’s still on sale and wait to play until it hopefully functions better? I don’t know, that one’s up to you. If you do buy it or if you have already, maybe save your global data in a folder somewhere every once in a while just in case…
I have SO MANY MIXED THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS about this game. Parts of it are like, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I can't believe this exists in a game (positive) and other parts of it I'm like, dude this suuuuucks. The premise is such a good idea and I don't know of any other games that do it? It's a dating sim... sort of. You follow several different characters as they go on dates in the same city - sometimes they have mutual friends, sometimes they date each other, and they are all highly specific people especially in terms of genders/sexualities/ethnicities/personalities and you're kind of just along for the ride of them figuring their ♥♥♥♥ out. The choices are about trying to help them make better decisions rather than succumb to their flaws and you have to get the "good" ending (which has nothing to do with whether they hook up or go out or whatever but is more about whether they learn something about themselves and manage to be mature about their feelings and not hurt each other too much) before you unlock more story. Unfortunately the user interface is terrible, the game is choc full of glitches, and some of the framings of choices feel like they did zero beta testing? (The one that really got me - why the ♥♥♥♥ was the difference between one of the good and bad endings whether or not
Emhari defends calling soda "pop" or laughs it off
???) Most of the writing is fantastic and then every once in a while it's like... wow this is garbage. It sounds like there were lots of writers so they could get people writing about their own ethnicities and sexualities and most of the time it works SO well but it also means the writing is sometimes very uneven in quality. There were some characters I was OBSESSED with and then others I could not STAND, and then there were characters I loved in some stories and then it would feel like they would act completely differently in other stories! The way it lands on me is that the writers and artists for the most part crushed it but maybe the people in producer/director/designer roles who were actually responsible for putting the game together dropped the ball in a major way. I could show you some screenshots that would make it look like the best visual novel ever, and I could also tell you about glitches I encountered, or story beats and decisions you are required to choose that would it sound like the worst visual novel ever. It's a mess but it's a beautiful mess and when all was said and done I loved it. Let's be clear - this game was unabashedly created for and by terminally online millennials with progressive politics. Fortunately, that's me! I experienced a wide spectrum of emotions with regard to both the stories within the game and interacting with the game itself. But I don't regret the time I spent with it at all. Take that however you will! For what it's worth, my recommendation is to NOT play Malik first. His internal monologues are the hardest to stomach by far IMO. I did Inaya first and Emhari second and only then got to Isa and Malik.
loved the art style, really interesting character designs, writing fell a little flat and i've only played until yolanda's story. neither of the two MCs that i have to choose in the beginning was all that appealing to me ngl. also, not sure if this is a bug, but i cant make it past through the title screen.
Played awhile back so take it with a grain of salt: I couldn't really get through the game? It felt like it defeated the purpose of a dating game. I feel that dating games are about a relationship blooming, badly or not, and perhaps even experiencing character growth. I didn't really get any of that here and i dont know if it's because of what the devs have planned for the future or if i played it wrong when i did. I don't think a dating game should be about not even getting past a first date. It felt like someone took a swing at making a game as diverse as possible without letting you actually date the people there. More than half of the achievements are about how the main character sucks, is crying, and nobody likes them. It's... kind of insufferable. I don't really enjoy that person. I know that person irl. I used to BE that person, so it's not rlly fun to play the personality of 100% made of insecurities and no other traits. If this game keeps going I do hope the main character gets some character growth??
Everything about this game is terribly unrelatable and annoying.
I wish I could be more positive but the other volumes still do not exist and the text broke sometimes too, which made playing difficult. 3/10 Dates Validated
