I have waited decades to play this game. For one reason or another, I always left it for later. Honestly, I'm glad I played it. Graphically, the game is one of the best of its time—remember, it's 2003, the first game to use Unreal Engine 2. But still, some studios were bringing too much to the table. These years were the strongest in graphics evolution ever. The sheer scale this game brings is the best I had seen before 2003. The lighting and high-quality textures look great, even by today's standards. Also, I could easily play it at 2560x1440 with no issues. That's impressive. However, the animations, especially in cinematics, feel like an indie game of today. Points of view, timing, and animations are really bad—which is sad, because they could have easily been fixed. This is perhaps related to the delays this game had, since it was supposed to come out in 2002, not 2003. Sound is pretty good too. The ambience and dialogue delivery are top-notch; they make you feel like you're there. Although, some scripted events could have been better. Feels they were made in a few days. Even some missions lack cinematics entirely. You arrive to a new planet with no objectives clear! Feels incomplete. Now, for the story, with no spoilers: it's average. The dialogue is cringy in many aspects, and it's really hard to connect with your companions. I recommend not paying much attention to it, although I've seen worse. When i just started, i almost quit the game. I didnt feel compelled into the story and the movement left much to be desired, until i got into the weapons. Jesus, super fun, many firing modes, each weapon a dimension away from the other! That really hooked me up. Totally worth it. A small detail that i loved, you can walk in your own ship with your crew! Feels a lot like Mass effect in that aspect. Truly incredible for its time. Too bad you cant pilot your ship at least a little bit would have been amazing. Also, since the game depends a lot on scripted events, is really hard to break the game. Follow instructions, and SAVE, a LOT. I havent seen so much mission problems since Morrowind. Remember, this game had A LOT of hype back then—the level of hype GTA and Half-Life had. It didn't meet those expectations. This is the downfall of the Unreal franchise. Unreal Tournament 2003 and 2004 are a totally different animal, and it really shows, since they were made by a different studio than Unreal II—one that focused on the single-player aspect. I don't believe it delivered. EDIT: I recommend using cheats to run faster; it makes the game less of a pain. Сейчас, конечно, эта игра - пытка. Сильно затянуто. Очень все медленно, топорно, скучно. Только что прошел первый half-life со всеми дополнениями и, хочу сказать, что он ощущается на много более динамичным и выверенным чем unreal 2. Многие враги нечестные и слишком плотные. Столкнувшись с ними, персонаж обречен получить урон и потратить приличное количество патрон. Механика установки турелей и защитных полей, защита периметра и командование отрядом ощущаются чем-то не из этой игры. Сюжет какой-то рваный, явно что-то вырезали, но трудно сказать что и где. Точно стоило добавить больше отстраненных реплик от персонажей по рации во время миссий, потому как уровни скучные, а функциональные пояснения утомляют. Оружие разнообразное, но все какое-то бесполезное. Дважды игра вылетала при загрузке сейва, в остальном работала очень стабильно. Не хватает опции загрузки конкретных миссий после прохождения игры.
