TREBUCHET is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a lazy cash grab. It's a boardgame type mobile app where you play the game of Trebuchet, which is a game where you move blocks around and you can also "tilt" the board to make the balls roll around. A bit like checkers meets one of those steel ball maze toys, but in crappy mobile app form. This is a sloppy, lazy mobile port, they didn't even bother with a working fullscreen mode. Resolution is locked and the game assets are simple and lazy, to be expected from a mobile app. As gamers, we don't spend thousands on gaming rigs to pretend they're iPhones. In line with cash grabs, this mobile app was dumped on Steam and dumped very quickly into shovelware bundles. Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this mobile app is a whopping $6 USD, on app stores, it's just $2. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged or scammed, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free mobile game just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers.
Bought this game on android while ago after seeing the raving reviews, and signed up to Steam just so I could have it on my laptop and play with friends! Its so simple and easy to learn, yet so addictive! The graphics look amazing in full screen on a laptop and desktop and the sounds are really lifelike and immersive! So cool to see something new and different for a change, and with the addition of two player mode and all the enjoyment we've had its well worth the new price tag !! Thanks for making such an amazing new game! 5*
半个小时以后终于赢了easy,然后和中级随便玩了一下,然后我放弃这游戏了
Trebuchet Discovered! Excellent, addictive, original new game. Well worth the price...
Love this game! stimulating and visually beautiful!
Easy to get into, a surprisingly deep & original challenge. If you like board games you should pick this up in a sale or build a real board.
TREBUCHET, developed and published by iconical Ltd., is a digital strategy game that takes inspiration from physical tabletop design and transforms it into a thoughtful, physics-driven experience. Rather than relying on fast reactions or complex control schemes, it builds its identity around spatial reasoning, momentum, and calculated positioning. The result is a game that feels more like manipulating a real object than issuing commands in a typical strategy title, giving it a distinct identity that sets it apart from more conventional digital board games. At its core, the gameplay revolves around guiding spherical pieces across a board by tilting the playfield, creating movement through gravity and momentum rather than direct input. The objective is twofold: eliminate the opposing king piece by knocking it off the board or maneuver your own king into a designated goal area. This dual win condition introduces an immediate layer of tension, as players must constantly decide whether to play aggressively or focus on careful positioning. Each move carries weight, and even small adjustments can have significant consequences depending on how the pieces interact. What makes TREBUCHET particularly engaging is the way it blends strategy with physics. Unlike traditional turn-based games where outcomes are fully predictable, here every action unfolds through motion. Angles, speed, and placement all influence the result, and while skilled players can anticipate outcomes with increasing accuracy, there is always a slight element of unpredictability. This creates moments where planning meets improvisation, rewarding players who can think ahead while adapting to the results of each move. The learning curve is approachable, with mechanics that are easy to understand within a few rounds. However, mastering the game requires a deeper understanding of how momentum and positioning interact. Over time, players begin to recognize patterns, refine their approach, and develop strategies that balance precision with risk. This progression feels natural, driven more by player experience than by external systems or unlocks, which aligns well with the game’s board game-inspired design. The game includes both single-player and local multiplayer modes, offering opportunities to play against AI or another person. The AI provides a functional challenge, though it can feel somewhat predictable compared to human opponents. Multiplayer is where the game’s design truly comes into focus, as each decision becomes part of a larger exchange of strategy and counterplay. Matches can shift quickly based on a single well-executed move, creating a sense of tension that builds naturally over time. Visually, TREBUCHET adopts a clean and polished presentation that emphasizes clarity. The board and pieces are easy to read, and the animations effectively convey the physical nature of movement and impact. There is a deliberate simplicity to the design that mirrors the feel of a real tabletop game, keeping the focus on interaction rather than visual complexity. The sound design complements this approach with subtle effects that reinforce movement without drawing attention away from the gameplay. Despite its strengths, the game’s simplicity can also limit its long-term appeal. With a relatively small set of mechanics and limited variation in modes, matches can begin to feel similar after extended play. The lack of additional layers—such as varied environments, expanded rule sets, or progression systems—means that replayability depends largely on the player’s enjoyment of the core concept. For some, this will be enough; for others, it may not provide sufficient variety to sustain interest. The physics-based nature of the gameplay, while a defining feature, can also introduce moments where outcomes feel less controlled than intended. Even with careful planning, slight variations in movement can lead to unexpected results, which may feel frustrating in a strategy-focused context. However, this unpredictability is also part of what gives the game its character, creating a balance between skill and chance that keeps matches from feeling entirely deterministic. Ultimately, TREBUCHET succeeds as a focused and thoughtfully designed strategy experience that embraces its simplicity. It doesn’t attempt to expand beyond its core idea, instead refining it into something that feels cohesive and deliberate. Its combination of spatial reasoning, physics-based interaction, and strategic decision-making creates a game that is easy to approach but rewarding to master. In the end, TREBUCHET is best suited for players who appreciate slower, more deliberate gameplay and enjoy the tactile feel of board game mechanics translated into a digital space. It may not offer the variety or depth of larger strategy titles, but it provides a unique and satisfying experience for those willing to engage with its systems. Rating: 6/10
