other shmups dont relax me like this. good experience
"Totally Shmup" is a godawfully bad 2D retro pixel arcade shoot 'em up/bullet hell with no discernable plot or narrative of any interest to gamers, and equally bad gameplay. And wow, 4:3 aspect ratio in 2024? Was this made using a CRT the developer found in a dumpster? Given the quality of this retro... thing... I wouldn't be surprised at all. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.

Simple yet lovely and just the right mix of difficulty, fun and nostalgia. Also love those bitty tunes, so punchy! The game is relaxed and easy to learn. Albeit being short, I had fun with it and I'd love to see more bite sized fun like this in the future.

Well, I did it again! I started writing a review for this, and like everything else I write, it started turning into a novel-length rant of me complaining about how the world was crap in my day, and how it’s even worse now! So for the first time in the past few years, I’m going to do the sensible thing - erase it, and stick to the topic at hand! - This game is Awesome! - It’s free! - And I really like the soundtrack! Specifically a track in one of the later levels (maybe 4 or 5) *Well, that’s it. Short, sweet, and to the point! BING-BONG Goodbye sir!
good job
cool, short and fun, it could be a little longer with more enemies variety! but cool first project tbh
