have you ever wondered what it'd be like to play tetris on a seesaw? well, tetris without tetris shapes, but the same general idea of dropping blocks and creating matches. and all this in an 80s neon-inspired setting with fitting music. well, that's what tiltit offers. that, and a city being built in the background based on your performance, which is a really neat idea. 5 game modes are available after a new one got added at the end of 2019, with their own leaderboards that open up elegantly in-game, not in a separate browser window or using the overlay. in marathon you're casually dropping blocks without a time limit, though if you hesitate too much, they'll drop on their own. while it's endless, the level counter goes up after 20 matches, and after 20 levels you technically win and also unlock new game+, which provides an even bigger challenge. time attack puts you up against the clock: make as many matches in 60 seconds as you can, but of course matches extend the timer. there's local duel, but steam's remote play together feature will make it work online as well, and finally, sprint, where you need to make 40 matches to win. matching only 2 blocks is enough for them to disappear, but with clever (or lucky) placement you can aim for more, and since it plays on a seesaw and physics affect blocks as well, you always have to balance things carefully, and make sure blocks don't fall off the sides either. white blocks are a kind of joker, and they're the only way to get rid of black blocks. and you'll want to go for chains, matching things in quick succession, for more points. both keyboard and mouse work, and in a duel you'll obviously have to decide who gets which, but for playing solo mouse is highly recommended. a handy teleport left/right/center is available for some quick movement with keys as well, but still. it's weird that you don't have to click on subcategories in the settings, a simple mouseover changes them, but you can get used to it. speaking of settings, customizability is great. resolution options, dedicated full screen toggle, separate volume sliders, rebindable keys, and a bunch of gameplay settings that are all explained. for example, a guiding line to see where pieces will land, a slot for pocketing a block for later, slow time to save you from a sticky situation, how many upcoming pieces you'd like to see (up to 4), which already-reached level you'd like to start on, etc. while not a complex game, tiltit does what it aims to do well, the presentation is pleasant, and even if it wasn't that relaxing for me, as physics-based puzzlers stress me out, it was still fun, and I can only imagine how much better it is when played with others, or solo but with some skills, so it's definitely recommended.
