I'll start by saying that I have been a follower of this franchise for years. I adore previous games, mainly Secrets of the Soul. Maybe that's why I was so disappointed by this one. Starting by the AI narrator voice, it was irritating. I wanted to mute it a few minutes in, but couldn't find a way to open the menu and didn't want to mute the music so I had to pull through. I kind of wish I hadn't. Even some of the questions feel AI generated, and while the images may only be AI modified, the presence of AI is so big it revokes all immersion. Unlike with previous games, at no point did I feel pulled in or understood. I sincerely hope the developers go back to making amazing games, because without the AI they had the talent for it. They had the ambiance, the art, the questions and close-to-home wording. Please. I beg. You're good at this.
I played all the original test installments, so I was eager to see what this reimagined version would be like despite the higher price tag... After it became clear the last few games that have come from this dev included AI generated art I feared this would bleed into the writing that was once quite thought provoking - unfortunately, I think that's become the case. The narrator voice feels one tone and AI generated, but the writing felt like it was plucked straight from ChatGPT. 'It's not x, it's y' or 'You are not x, you are y' over and over again. The bullet point nature of the cards without much actual substance... I'm honestly disappointed.
I played two other Test games and thought they were fun and interesting. I was excited to try this since it’s the third in the main trilogy but was immediately turned off by the AI of it all. AI voice and AI art that is just so blatant. I’m sure the team made adjustments but it doesn’t look like they did much. Really took me out of it. The test itself was fine but the ending takes almost a half hour and the game crashed halfway through.
I'm kind of disappointed with this release, they usually release some of the most mind opening games but this time it was very different. They use AI, didn't know because I bought this from the bundle, that's on me But even that aside, the dialogue is extremely hollow with no real meaning behind it and it's also extremely drawn out, I couldn't bare myself to finish the game. The AI usage here really killed this game ( and they use it heavily, pretty much the whole game is made from AI ) It definitely could have been amazing with more thought behind it, but for now, I cant recommend this game even to my worst enemy Devs, please don't use AI for your games, you guys genuinely have such amazing potential to make even more amazing games.
This game should be called "The test: made worse for some reason." The speaker is annoying. The text goes on FOREVER. There's no way to stop it. I love the test and I've played every single game they've ever made. This feels like a serious downgrade. Why would you release something this bad when you already have 5 superb games? Makes no sense. Do not buy this. Buy the other 5 and pretend this one doesn't exist.
The voice is such a pain. You can't skip it, pause it, or speed it up. It spends SO long talking that I've already read the entire question while it still gets through the first sentence. I tabbed out my entire ending because I got fed up. It's been 10 minutes now and it's still reading. I'm checking my email. Still reading. Hurry UP? If you're going to make it talk that slowly, let it be skippable or fast forwarded. I've made two phone calls and it's still on the 4th card.
The games prior were nice....but it's lost its luster when you put too much AI in it. If I wanted chatgpt to create a horoscope for me, i'd just ask it to. I came here because it was always specific and not generic. I wasn't too upset about the AI pictures. The whole card secretion was long and drawn out. Similar to how chatgpt will just use a lot of words just because. I missed how it was before. I'm not saying don't use AI if it helps you and makes it easier. I'm saying only use it to proof read and correct grammar. Dont let it write it for you. This went from insightful game to expensive chatgpt person quiz. I can do that for free. My favorite card was Mirror Town. Please go back to how it was.
This game is a lot more expensive than the previous titles without doing much different aside from hiring a narrator. The questions are akin to the games before it, and at least this one has some variety, but I don't think that makes it worth the asking price. The results being five different 'cards' is interesting, but it would've been nice if they were preceded by what they were supposed to represent (past, present etc) and to be shown the five of them again AFTER we're asked to leave the card we resonated with most in the review. It didn't help that the autosave only triggered twice during the entire session, and one of the save states was directly before the credits! I still hope for the best from this team, but I wouldn't blame people for skipping this one. My final card was The Stable Ground, which accurately describes how I try to live my life. There's little fairness in the world, but acting with integrity can cause those around you to replicate your actions, changing the world one small feat at a time.
This was certainly interesting and I agree with all of it (currently). At the moment I am trying to find/understand my own temperament, while I have a good understanding sometimes you need to hear it at a different angle. For example maybe using "sea" terminology/idioms might resonate more than a normal definition while using "space" terminology/idioms might help resonate at a different angle. So I will share how I have resonated with the cards. Others might not resonate it with it at all or they might take a piece or more. Just the potential that it helps someone understand themselves just a bit better is enough for me to leave a Review. I probably wont add this much to the other reviews as they didn't feel quite as open ended as this. (I still loved all of it) 1 North Arrow: I have already found my purpose/end goal, but that requires me to fix my rocky foundation when time isn't on my side. It is also difficult to turn away from others in pain as sometimes you are the only one who can truly see the hurt. More people are starting to see what I already see, but it took a lot of healing myself to recognize what I am feeling as well how to handle it. However you have to respect the nuance of how they got there as if you accidently step a little too hard or not hard enough you will just hurt them more. Also keep in mind that 'you need to put on the oxygen mask on first before you help other people' though sometimes life doesn't give you that option. Sometimes others are a step to close to the cliff and you need to take action or they are lost forever. You can only try your best even if it isn't good enough. If you can find an outlet for the building pressure try your best to take it. Just recognize that life just happens so it might not be there when you need it most so have a few backups. Not that you won't collapse if you haven't build/healed their support structure correctly. Some 'fights' you can't show as it would add to much pressure on what is on the verge of breaking. But because those fights aren't seen they only see the damage after the collapse. Sometimes you only realize that you have starved yourself of oxygen after you collapse and sometimes you need oxygen first to realize it. Only after you have take the time to think with the oxygen can you see what you have truly lost. All you can do is always try do your best. Otherwise you will eat yourself alive. Even if you do your best it is hard to stop your subconscious from eating itself alive. I have always done my best because it is the right thing to do and it is what I would have wanted in their shoes. 2 River Beyond: It wouldn't be a lie to say I was shaped by death. I have had a lot of people die in my life and it always hurts. What hurts the most is not knowing what comes next. Everyone has an answer that they have complete faith in. And that is completely understandable and valid. But from the Ancient practices to the modern practices they are too numerus and sometimes contradictory. They might all be right, they might all have a mix of the truth and some might be completely false. I want the best for my descendance and I only want the truth so that I can give them the best next life as possible while trying to also give them the best life as possible. 3 Threadkeeper: Just because the brain forgets doesn't mean the heart has not. I don't want others who have nothing to do with the hurt to become hurt themselves just because the my heart thinks the cause of the hurt is in front of them, when they might have been gone for a long time. "The body keeps the score" is a good example of this. You have to let the pressure out eventually, I just want to let it out in a healthy way without impacting other people negatively. 4 Lantern: To heal the hurt I have gone through without negatively impacting myself and other requires a lot of patience and understanding. It is extremely hard especially if you try to take action when you aren't ready. As your subconscious will start to stop putting faith in the process if you fail. You might have just missed a step or went a little to hard or soft in parts you shouldn't have, but it was enough to make your subconscious put up subconscious barriers to make it harder the next time you try. Even if you did it perfectly this time, because of the new barrier it is no longer enough. Or maybe it is too 'hot' to touch and your subconscious falsely/or actually truthfully/rightly is trying to stop you from going too direct in the fear it will explode when you aren't ready for it. 5 Full Table: I was really struggling with a 50/50 between 'Securing everyone's basic needs' and 'awaking everyone's purpose' (I imagine that it would be the 'wakeful self' card) because Both are needed. Some people awaken their purpose in hardship while some already know their purpose, but they were a step to late and now they are trying to play catchup. However some know their purpose early on, but they are blocked until they don't have the means to pursue it. Or it becomes secondary as life is just handed them to many bad cards and they have to give up on it. Even with both there are issues as because you awakened everyone's purpose AND you Secured everyone's basic needs you might have just taken away their major purpose. It would still be better two have both as it also removes the 'false purpose and corrupted purpose' Things that can happen if your hand was missing a card or someone convinced you the card meant something else either with good intentions or ill. Still that doesn't remove the possibility of opposite purposes or explain the means in how to walk the path which is why I ended up with the Full table card. As even with Secured basic needs life is still hard and purpose can still be found. (Also as a side note more for the developers I have 6 of the 7 games. I just don't know what the last one is for the final 'secret word'. I have to be more frugal with my money until I heal enough that I can start the next phase of my life.) I have: The Test (Gifted) The Test Hypothesis Rising (Deserving) The Test Final Revelation (Loved) The Test Reality Check (Belonging) The Test Reimagined (North Arrow/River Beyond/Threadkeeper/Lantern/Full Table) The Testing Chamber (Goblet)
Great game as always. Loved the narrators voice. Secret Word: The Open Sky.
