Wow, really enjoyable escape-room game with frequent motivating dialogue that makes you forget there's no voice acting. The environments and artstyle made things insatiably intriguing and hence so fun to explore and collect clues. The puzzles were satisfying to solve and many of them centred around saving trapped individuals. A gem of a puzzle game.
played though this puzzle mansion and while the game is fine i do think all the added text slows the pace quite a bit stopped opening the optional dialogue just to get through it when i got the game initially i did expect it to be more of a resident evil style puzzle game (from the 3rd person cutscenes) but it's actually just a fairly simple first person puzzle room style game with chill music the puzzles were actually pretty good, but i just didn't enjoy the game, and ended up tuning out when others had to be saved

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

A good puzzle/horror game with some nice characters that doesn't overstay its welcome. It has some minor flaws I'll note here: -If you plan to play this, savescum whenever you meet a new character and do their puzzle. There is a separate achievement for saving them and failing to save them, and two of the three endings require you to save all of them, so it's best to just play it safe so you're not replaying the entire game just to fix one mistake. Plus, the bad ending is so unsatisfying as to be insulting, and the second ending is all but screaming at you that you missed something. This is mitigated somewhat by the game's short length. -Like all puzzle games, the train of logic you follow will either make sense or not. I had one or two issues with some puzzles which boiled down to not noticing a minor environmental detail, which made solving them correctly impossible. It also doesn't help that due to the relatively open nature of the map you can stumble into the most challenging puzzles first. (cough cough, planetarium) Overall, I had a great time with this game, and it's very short and affordable so I recommend it.
This recommendation comes with a caviat: Buy this game for the escape room puzzles and the graphics and atmosphere. Those were fun, and makes the game worth playing. Do NOT buy this for characters, story or the central mystery. That way lays only uninspired tropes, unoriginal caricatures, completely average writing, and a main character whose entire character voice is "Millenial marvel-quips".
YOU HAVE A FLASHLIGHT! (F by default) THIS IS IMPORTANT! They may have mentioned it early in the game, but my heavy fingers must have accidentally skipped over it. I found myself digging through the settings looking for a Gamma control to find clues for a puzzle early on. All I needed to do was hit F. Overall a good game. The in-game clock says it took me about 6 hours, 15 minutes. In real-time it took closer to 7 hours 20 minutes. (I did some save-scumming) Each of the puzzle rooms is self contained. The few times I looked up hints, I ended up feeling like I should have been able to figure it out myself. I have a few minor quibbles. The other characters seem a little under-utilized after you meet them. The 'posing puzzle' in the medical room was annoying. The ways you're able to change the pose aren't very clear. Beyond that, no major complaints. It delivers on the puzzles, less so on the horror, which is fine for me.
The puzzles were just hard enough to be challenging, but not so bad that I ever needed to reach for a guide. The story also took me in some wild directions. Loved everything about this game.
The Tartarus Key, developed by Vertical Reach and published by Armor Games Studios, is a first-person mystery puzzle adventure that channels the spirit of classic survival horror while deliberately removing combat from the equation. Instead of arming the player with weapons, the game equips them with logic, observation, and patience. Set inside a sprawling and ominous mansion filled with traps, locked chambers, and cryptic devices, the experience centers on escape-room design layered with narrative tension and psychological unease. You play as Alex Young, who awakens inside a locked room with no explanation for how she arrived there. Surveillance cameras monitor her movements, strange mechanical doors block her path, and the mansion’s layout suggests careful orchestration rather than random captivity. As Alex navigates deeper into the estate, she encounters other captives and begins uncovering fragments of a larger mystery. The narrative unfolds gradually through environmental storytelling, conversations, and hidden documents rather than exposition-heavy cutscenes. This approach creates a slow-burning intrigue that rewards careful exploration and attention to detail. The game’s defining feature is its puzzle design. Each room functions almost like a self-contained escape chamber, presenting challenges that range from logical deduction and pattern recognition to environmental manipulation. Solutions rarely rely on reflexes or timing; instead, they demand careful observation and critical thinking. Many puzzles are multi-layered, requiring players to connect clues across rooms or interpret symbolic details embedded in the mansion’s décor. While a few challenges may momentarily stump players, the majority feel fair and internally consistent, avoiding arbitrary trial-and-error frustration. Atmosphere plays a crucial role in shaping the experience. The visual presentation embraces a retro, low-poly aesthetic reminiscent of early 3D horror titles. Textured surfaces, angular character models, and moody lighting combine to evoke nostalgia while maintaining clarity in gameplay. Rather than feeling outdated, the art direction reinforces the unsettling tone of isolation and confinement. Sound design further heightens tension, relying on subtle ambient noise, mechanical clicks, and quiet echoes rather than loud jump scares. The horror is psychological and spatial—rooted in the dread of confinement and uncertainty rather than overt threats. Unlike many horror games, The Tartarus Key avoids chase sequences or enemy encounters. Tension arises from the consequences of puzzle decisions and the moral implications of certain outcomes. As the story progresses, players must make choices that influence the fate of other captives and determine which of the game’s multiple endings they will receive. This branching structure adds replay value and encourages deeper engagement with the narrative. Completing the game once provides closure, but uncovering all endings reveals additional layers of context. The pacing strikes a careful balance between narrative progression and puzzle density. Most playthroughs span several hours, offering a compact yet fulfilling experience. The mansion gradually reveals new wings and increasingly intricate mechanisms, maintaining a steady escalation in complexity without overwhelming the player. While the story may feel understated compared to more cinematic horror titles, its subtlety aligns with the game’s focus on introspective tension. There are minor drawbacks. Dialogue occasionally lingers longer than necessary, and some players may find the retro visuals either charming or dated depending on personal preference. Additionally, the absence of overt horror elements may disappoint those expecting intense scares. However, these aspects do not diminish the game’s cohesive design. Its commitment to puzzle-driven progression and atmospheric storytelling gives it a clear identity. Ultimately, The Tartarus Key succeeds as a thoughtfully crafted puzzle thriller that prioritizes intellect over aggression. By combining escape-room mechanics, retro horror aesthetics, and branching narrative consequences, it offers an engaging and immersive experience that respects the player’s intelligence. For those who appreciate cerebral challenges wrapped in a tense, mysterious setting, it delivers a compelling journey through a mansion where every locked door hides both danger and discovery. Rating: 8/10
8/10 spooky puzzle game. Most of the puzzles are decent and simple, one or two left me clueless. Not difficult to 100%
