The Summit Library is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This is an apparently incomplete e-book (read: high school anime club dropout fan-fiction) with a fantasy/war/library theme... but yeah, we all know this is really just about the authors favourite topic, his imaginary anime girlfriends/waifus. The writing is peak cringe and may be disturbing for some readers... nobody likes cringe, and that's all this has. Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. One of the chief problems with failed authors polluting Steam with non-game E-books is that E-books can easily just be presented in a web browser... there's no justification for charging money on Steam for what might as well be a webpage. We don't spend thousands on buying a gaming rig to spend money on Steam for something Chrome or Firefox could do. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the e-book peaked at only 5 concurrent readers... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. The funny thing is, if you wanted to print this book, you'd only need to print 5 copies to satsify the entire world's demand for it. While this E-book is "free", you can get better quality, professionally written books and comics for free online (from places like Project Gutenberg) or from public libraries. Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.

Well, for a free game... It's okay. Not MY cup of tea, but I can at least feel that the developers tried to make an interesting game AND it is not bad. Why don't you play it and think for yourself?
The Summit Library wasn't a bad experience, but it wasn't clear to me that this is essentially just the first two chapters of a visual novel. Considering it's been a couple years since release, I'm not expecting the rest anytime soon. The character art looks a little odd since everyone's eyes seem to sit unusually high on their faces, but the characters themselves have distinct personalities and the story kept pulling me back in. I genuinely wanted to know what happened next. The choices didn't seem to have much impact, but overall it was a decent visual novel to relax with for a few hours. I just wish it was finished so I could see how it ends.
please PLEASE release the next chapter i am begging on my KNEES 🛐 also maybe charge for it you seriously deserve some funding ok ily (btw i played on steam deck and everything ran flawlessly)
Really love this game, played it fully on itch.io. The characters, worldbuilding, writing, and art all feel really natural and well made, you can tell a lot of effort and care was put into everything! Definitely recommend and looking very much forward to part 2!
LOOOVE this so much so far. it's not often i feel compelled to draw up a character & write a bio for my MC, but i just couldn't help myself for this vn!! i cant WAIT for new chapters to release! (only 1 chpt is out atm of this review) its all so interesting and the character interactions are believably paced, and natural in dialogue. nothing feels quite so out of place- and all things considered, for something thats free; the writing cannot be praised enough. super excited for more chances to explore this wonderful world with my new character ive made just for this story!!! cant recommend enough. 💟
Great story and great characters, I'm absolutely hooked already and there's only one chapter out! I can't wait for the next installments. :)
Hello! I genuinely have adored this game so far. I love the cast, inclusivity, and genuine thought behind all the world building and relationships. I hope this game garners much more attention, as it deserves, and that others will come to love it as many have :) … For those wanting more detail: The game is highly inclusive with so many cast options to satisfy any romantic preference! In fact I had such a hard time choosing who to pursue on my first play through. Ofc I chose yakyar. They were so magical, and I loved the genuine moments of connection between them and MC. Especially for yakyar, their depth of character and the representation of such an emotional history with themes of war, family, and culture. There is an overarching portrayal of maturity in dealing with themes of war and traumas that the game perfectly captures. Not only that, but the overall experience of the writing, dialogue, and plot building is phenomenal. I enjoy the fact that we get to discover the world as we progress, unlocking information and discerning insights from specific actions and plot elements. It truly feels like I’m reading a novel, and that is a very high compliment. The story is so well thought out and reads well altogether. Combining the illustrations and writing, this VN is a testament to artistic achievement and creativity. An authentic work of human art. Overall. This has been a wonderful demo so far. I hope to see much more in the future! <3
If you like visual novels, especially in the fantasy vein, I definitely recommend checking out this demo. Between Itch and Steam I've played this demo three or four times by now. Although only chapter 1 is out so far, it's got some fantastic worldbuilding and done a lot of work establishing several key characters, including the player. The user interface, character art, and music are all lovely and I'm looking forward to playing more as soon as it's available!
